Christmas clean out

Recommended Posts

I've got to do ours...

I am not looking forward to it - so cold!

I admit I went for the easy option yesterday, and just emptied the poo tray and put some fresh stuff in their nest box. But I do need to give it a scrub... :(

If only someone could "invent" non-pooing chickens - they would be a very rish person!

Just back in and defrosting! Brrrrrr! I have a wooden coop, and always brush out the poo daily. I had to clear the run, though, as they were incarcerated for a week having medicine  I literally had to chip some of the easibed away from the slabs  The damp and then freezing weather had stuck it solid. No wonder my ladies have been staying indoors :( I feel better now it's done, though, and like the idea that they'll be warm and cosy tonight :D

Always do my big clean out on a Sunday, but must admit I just emptied the poo tray and nest box area and raked over the easibed in the run as quickly as poss yesterday as freezing cold sleet all day.

My girls saw snow for the first time today and were horrified. Refused to come out of the (covered) eglu run at all. Ruby tried one pace out of the door, hopped from foot to foot and rushed back inside hurrying Mabel and Hetty with her. Looked absolutely furious and is obviously blaming me personally for what has happened to their garden.

Made it clear that evening porridge and corn were absolutely no compensation whatsoever. :shameonu:

I did the Eglu Christmas clean on Sunday in a couple of inches of snow. Got halfway through the job when the snow appeared which soon turned into a blizzard, I retreated to the house for half and hour. When I got back outside the soapy water had frozen on the Eglu, the job was finished while it was still snowing.
