Too cold to leave quail out

Recommended Posts

Moved my quail in to the conservatory - it is so cold. THey have snuggled down in a cat carrier and brooder very happy 8) Although I did have to rearrnage a little who was with who before they settled

Up to now they have been happy outside as they are in a sheltered bit of the garden and the run is closed at the back but too cold to leave them the last few days.

Still got the quail inside  I thought it would only be a few days but their hutch and run are buried in deep snow !

I orderd one of these http://www.snugspetstore.com/rabbithutch.aspto put in the (unheated) conservatory for them as I think they have now been in long enough it would be a real shock to them to got back out in sub zero temps. I'm hoping it will be easier to clean than the wooden hutch I use outside.

At the moment they are split between a cat carrier and a brooder.

Ours are still out and are OK.

They have an aviary with corrugated plastic sheet to two sides and a roof. Inside the aviary they have a small hutch which is full of Aubiose and there is a good 4" of aubiose coverig the concrete floor. They have some branches to scuttle under as well.

I like those hutches, really good price too 8)

Looks ideal to clean out, the thing I found with the quail was that they'd spill their water and food everyhere and make a paste that sticks to the hutch

Can we have a photo when it arrives please?

I've been using the snug pets hutch inside the conservatory. It's good for indoors but one problem with it is the two 'doors' lift off rather than open on a hinge which I feel makes escape easier. I've just moved the quail back into the original wooden hutch and run outside to give them some more space.

For long term housing absolutely agree a run would be needed. As emergency accomodation for injured birds, indoors for very cold weather and moving on chicks from brooder it's good. Basically I see it as supplementing my existing setup.
