I let the girls out this afternoon for the first free range for a few days ( been away).

The WIR door had blown shut, so when I went to lock them away a few minutes ago they were all locked out. The two Light Sussex girls were perched on top of the Gertrude, Poppy & Buzz were cowering behind the and the garden fence, & little Rosa was hiding in my chicken-keeping shed ( door doesn't shut properly) on the bottom shelf of my plastic storage, hiding behind a bag of Columbine Bianco. I was mightily relieved to find her.

Easily done, don't beat yourself up . My WIR door blows shut too so I invented a gadget for keeping it open . I'm glad they were all safe and well, if a bit perplexed .

you're not a bad mummy at all. I once put them in the coop with the pop hole door shut so they couldn't go to bed. I practically punched myself in the head over that. we do our best...

Don't feel bad, I was a really bad chickenmummy on Xmas Eve. I had a friend round who had not seen the chickens before and I had been showing her the eggcellent features of the eglu, demonstrating how the door opens and shuts. I was late going to check them ( after a glass or two of Xmas spirit!) that evening and found that during my demonstration I had left the eglu door shut, it was pitch black, freezing cold and sleeting, and none of the girls were able to get back in. Two of them were soaking wet and huddled on a crossbar of the pergola while Mabel my little frizzle I finally tracked down after calling to her roosting in a Choisya bush! I felt terrible for days after.

 

I won't do that again.

You're not alone. I shut mine out of the nestbox yesterday . They didn't half tell me off. Their fault for leaping out the back of the cube uninvited when I had a look.

I did sort of the same thing the other day..

Mine were out on the garden all day and the door blew shut. It was dark by yhr time I went out to shut them away and I couldn't find them! They had put themselves to sleep for the night in my sons wooden shed. lol, they weren't happy to be moved mack into their coop either lol

Guilty of that too earlier in the year! Then I had the nerve to tell them off for whingeing.
