My OH tonight announced that we need to get some concrete down under the chook run and have a WIR. He said I can't go on crawling around cleaning up the run.

 

I hadn't asked or hinted because I think I am really lucky having my set up and the girls. But ......... Yipee he really knows how to make me happy.

Considering he detests the chickens ..

 

He set up chicken cam whilst we were away for 2 nights over Xmas so I could reassure myself they were still clucking as I had left the eglu door open

 

He has agreed to have a concrete slab built [ and organised the quote ]

AND is happy for a 12*6 avaries 4 u [ built by Tony as he hates DIY ]

 

This is all to make me happy !! Do you think he may be in the running ??

Am thinking of changing the cube to an eglu or go because my run will not be big. Which would be best for the 4 girls Anyone any thoughts.

if you are sticking with 4 girls in the WIR then i think an eglu would be better: you'll have more floor space and manueverability, making use of vertical space like you did with your mezzanine, than with a cube. You don't need a cube and run 'footprint' for 4, so an eglu footprint will give you more fun space - IMHO.

 

(but the idea of sticking to 4 chooks.... )

What about having the cube (or eglu if you get one) on the outside of the run?

 

Am just thinking about putting the wendy house on the outside of ours, as I'm not sure how big it will all look with it inside, once built

That would be ideal Lewis but there just isn't the space. This is the area pre cube and from where photo is taken is a steep slope as well as on the left. The garden ends where you can see on the right.

 

Wonder if next door would let me use their garden No a smaller house is fine for my girls.

 

My garden wouldn't support more than 4 Laurie and if I started I would have 20 and get carried away .

Yay Thats fantastic Plum, you lucky girl, and to your OH.

Sounds like there is an abundance of good OHs at the moment. Mine has put together the table from Ikea to put the eglu on today.

I would keep your cube Plum and have it on the outside of the run, get rid of it and you will regret it because sticking to 4 chucks with a WIR..... well.... its unheard of!

I've got 5 in an eglu and small run - they seem very happy (even with no freeranging this past week or two ).

Just had a look at your pics again ANH and that lovely grass. May have to treat myself to some turf down there on my bedraggled slope.

I also have five in an Eglu, they are perfectly fine
