New crochet mag!

Recommended Posts

It's great for beginners & comes with 2 balls of wool & good quality crochet hook... it's only 99p for the 1st issue. Bargain! I can already crochet, but it was worth it just for the hook & there is a nice pattern in it for a crochet cover up tunic. 8)

Basically, you make a square each issue & sew them all together to make a huge blanket. 8)

Just thought I'd share my bargain!

Oh & it's called The Art of Crochet.

I bought it too the other day, have been wanting to crochet for some time, I was going to buy a book. Saw the magazine and thought that would do.

Will probably buy the next one at £1.99 but not when it goes up to the full price, it comes out every week as well.

I have tried the stitches and eventually managed the triple crochet, I was very pleased with myself, my family didn't share my enthusiasm, even offered to turn it into a mobile phone cover for DD's new phone, she just gave me a 'look' :?

Have you seen a website called attic24 it is very inspirational.

To join, poke your hook through the end stitch of say the chain ( for example), pull the loose wool through both the stitch that was originally on the hook & the one you just poked into....ta da..joined & one loop on your hook.

I have Attic24 as one of my web favourites. I look at her blog nearly every day. I just love the colours of wool she uses together.

I've done the square from that mag, I call it my popcorn square.

I'm doing a quick scarf now, then probably a pram blanket or cushion.

My new years resolution is to do a square a week & join them up next Xmas to make a blanket. 8)

On a whole it's to knit & crochet a lot of nice things.

Spot on just what I was going to say!!. I practised loads tho to get it right and even now I sometimes forget the difference between the stitches and have to look it up. I tried making my flowers lots of ways experimenting with the wool types. I was confident enought then to do something based on that for my SS pressie and was bowled over when the recipient said they liked it :oops:

I nearly bought a copy of the magazine today when I was in town but the queue in WHS was soooo long.

I would like to subscribe to the magazine and I have been on the website but can't find out how often the direct debit is :? yearly?, monthly? quarterly? Am I being really thick :? Does any one know? (about the direct debit not if I am thick  )

I have been told they send you 4 weeks worth of subscriptions ever month. there is however nearly 200 subscriptions I believe so it could work out mighly expensive...

PLus I read that they send you ring binders when they think you need them at £4.99 a pop aswell. Kind of them to spend your money like that.. ;)

I am just getting a few to give me an idea

There seem to be some benefits to being a subscriber, like free gifts etc, and you can cancel your subscription with 28 days notice.

http://www.crochettoday.com/how-to This seems to be the americal equivalent and there are lots of patterns and good videos there too if people did not wish to buy the mag. I will buy it as I see it in the shop as dont want any binders - have loads of them at home without buying more esp at £4.99 normal price £9.99 eek. It seems a great magazine for all that though and the dvd is very explicite with its tuition. All in all a great buy.

I have had mum on the case and she's called to tell me she's got me the magazine and will drop it in to me tomorrow.. where would I be without her sometimes. :anxious:

I agree Blackrocksrock I have enough binders already and feel they should be an 'option' not just sent when they feel like it.

The gifts do not encourage me to subscribe....

I got it today, it's very good with a DVD and easy to follow instructions. Well, I say easy but I'm left handed so it took a bit of working out how to do it back to front

I've only done a foundation chain so far cos Mollster decided to sit on my chain!

I've done my square & have also nearly made a scarf from another mag that was £7.99. Luckily it was a present that was bought for me - so it didn't cost me anything ,but my time. 8)

Next project is a nice round cushion & a garland, to brighten up my room - now the Xmas decs are down.

And to think that this time last year I couldn't crochet. It was last years resolution to learn & I conquered it!

This year I'm aiming for a square or more a week & some nice crochet bits in every room, including the 2 caravans as well & maybe even the sheds / workshops.
