legend21
Hello All, I currently have a cube with two extensions but most of the day my girls free range as I work from home, however with the fear of foxes I have decided to invest in a WIR. I have looked at the pictures on this forum and some of them are fantastic. Still to tell OH this news and will have to work on him as he can see lots of reasons not to have one eg the ground is too uneven, the trees are hanging over and will need cut back and so on and so on. Before I embark on this, any really obvious things I should avoid or short cuts I can look for, I will use your advice as ammunition to counter OH stand on this. p.s. it is definately happening watch this space thank you Jackie

Redwing
Say to him 'darling I know you are so clever and practical I bet you can think of a way to get a run in that awkward space'
chick wiggle
I started by showing him the pictures of other peoples runs on here. Saying things like 'Oh look at this one, and that ones good, Im sure you could build a better one darling' and 'oh imagine how much easier it would be with a WIR'. Eventually he started planning one himself! Good Luck , let us know how you get on
docsquid
I started by showing him the pictures of other peoples runs on here. Saying things like 'Oh look at this one, and that ones good, Im sure you could build a better one darling'and 'oh imagine how much easier it would be with a WIR'. Eventually he started planning one himself! This approach hasn't worked for me so far, and he completely denies there is any danger from foxes. I suspect we will have to lose a chook or two before he believes it. In the meantime in three months he has poo picked twice, and never cleaned out the cube or run. I am trying the "how much easier it would be with a WIR, we could keep them in more and the garden would get less messy" approach. I think he secretly knows that once we have a WIR we will get more chooks, and that has been vetoed at the moment. So good luck - it has worked for some, but not others, at least not yet! I don't give up that easily.
Chook n Boo Mum
Once you've sown the seed, take a step back............let the info sink in........don't even mention a WIR for a few weeks...........DH suddenly came out with "I've found somewhere that does weldmesh at a good price....." and started sitting down & planning the WIR that now stands proud in our garden.....it's still a work in progress, but the main run is there & we are adapting it to be better as we go along.....of course the arrival of 4 batties (expected) and 4 Orpies (unexpected adoption) may have had some bearing on the situation as the Orpies came with a run which was far far too small for them By the time they were all starting to integrate we had a lovely big run for them all to share...excellent result Good luck every one Sha x

legend21
I had planned to get one the same as space chick 18ft by 6ft by 6ft, I even emailed Tony for a quote, but I will give this wee local man a go and see what he comes up with, the man who is cutting my trees said he used really quality material on his two runs, so will meet with him, show him what I like and see if he had any other ideas. Will let you know his price. Camera is charged up but not sure about loading it onto omlet website, will give it a go when run is starting.
