The Dogmother
Phil thinks it's hilarious that I like doing my own DIY - he can't believe that I'm happy with my chainsaw and 7lb hammer I do call the experts out though for anything I can't do. Linda
It's good to be independent, Clare, and it's a good role model when you have daughters.
The Dogmother
I really want to learn bricklaying so that I can build my garden wall and not need top pay someone to do it.
hillfamily
quite fancy bricklaying and possibly plumbing i love doing DIY - always have done. Always been an independent girl, even before i was on my own. Not much i won't tackle except electrical things - don't want to blow myself up I fitted my mum's new kitchen for her and am never more at home than when armed with my tools very excited at xmas when i was bought a motorised tape measure - kept me quiet for hours while i measured my kitchen for its new units

Popcorn
Ok, who can fix radiators back onto a wall...?..Clare, Lesley, KateA? One of ours fell off this morning, just as I was about to leave for work. I'll add it to the list shall I?
The Dogmother
I can do that, or I'll be Lesley's 'plumber's mate' while she does it. Shame on you Gina! My dad always made sure that I knew how to do stuff for myself, including servicing my own car and changing tyres. It is very helpful as i don't have anyone else to do it for me - that's unless I can dig 'Lazy Boy' out of his place to come and help having said that, my sis is pretty useless, but then she's married to a builder

I was brought up with 'electrics' as my Dad is an electrician. I must admit that since I hurt my knee and can't kneel down, I do more 'Project Management' and Carl provides the brawn. He says he's only here to dig holes I do get stuck in when I can - I can't bear to just be watching

Him Indoors "supervises" whilst I get on with it. He doesn't know which end of a screwdriver is which
Cate in NZ
KateA has done/is doing bricklaying and plumbing - and I used to work as a plumber in a previous lfe (with my ex.) I even own a cement mixer I think it was a valentine's gift last year from hubby I think I complained once too often about knocking up the muck....... hoping he might help. Instead he bought me a great big, bright orange mixer. Matches the eglu though I'm not a great bricklayer, nor plumber, but did basic courses in both last year as a reaction to too much academic type study, and I have to say I enjoyed them both enormously . I've even built a couple of walls, and plan to build another when the weather warms up a bit, and have done basic plumbing jobs, radiators off and on walls when decorating and I replaced a kitchen tap earlier this year, although I did need hubby's brute force to undo the old fixings. The Dogmother
I find that a problem too Kate - I need more strength or bigger hands sometimes. It makes me so frustrated
