New Girl!

Recommended Posts

:D Hello, I've just signed in as a new member. I hope to be a first time chicken keeper in the Spring (my birthday present!). I've been thinking of getting chickens for some time now and have also looked after my neighbour's chickens when they went on holiday. I'm thinking of buying the Omlet chickens - 1 Miss Pepperpot and 2 Gingernut Rangers. Will they mix OK or will the 2 Gingernut Rangers gang up on the other one. :?: PS This is my first time posting on any forum - scary!!!

Thanks for saying hello, good luck with your 3 girls! :D

Hello :D I'm new too, as well as new to Chickens. I got my 3 Gingernut Ranger girls on Wednesday, and they're lovely! So friendly. I don't know the answer to your Q but thought I'd say hi as I'm a newbie too..

Hi and welcome (both of you!)

If you get your three chickens on the same day they should be fine, the normal pecking order establishment is a bit rough sometimes and hard to see but they will get through it

It would be a lot worse if you bought two then added a third as then one set is on home ground and you have to keep them separately then introduce them gradually

So all on same day is better :D

Yes, if they all come together they will be fine. I started over two years ago with a Miss Pepperpot a Gingernut Ranger. They were such wonderful friends - they would give each other food. The Gingernut is particularly lovely...she is now very nearly three and my absolute darling. Oh I envy you that first chickening...how a gorgeous introduction to what is an addictive hobby. Lots of people here can help you too......

I got my chickens in October - one Pepperpot and two Gingernuts. They were absolutely fine with each other from the start. The Pepperpot (Blodwyn) is larger and is top chook, but they all seem very happy together. There was a bit of posturing to establish the pecking order but they all seem pretty content together.

We hope to add 2 or 3 more later this year.

:D Thank you to everyone who replied. Made me feel really welcome. I am really looking forward to getting my girls PPGNRGNR - thinking of names at the moment! Hoping to get them late March (my Birthday) and will let you know when they've arrived and how we are all getting on! In the meantime, I will be keeping an eye on the forum (it's amazing what you can learn here) and may come back with some more questions.

Thinking up names for them is a bit of fun eh. Mine are all named after Roman empresses (one of my other time consuming hobbies! )

Bring on the questions! Many of us learn loads that way!

Hello to you both, welcome to the forum. You are going to love your chooks and this forum.:dance:

March is so far away. Will you really be able to wait that long  Have fun, and don't forget we want to see pictures as soon as you get your girls.:dance:

:D I'm thinking the same, I am so excited about getting them, a part of me is saying "go on get them now"! Anyway, whenever I do get them, I'll let you know and post pictures (once I've figured out how to do that - I'm not very good with techy stuff!).
