Happy-Mama
I have been reading about how good oils such as Olive or Grapeseed oil are for your skin and how people use them in place of moisturisers (straight out the bottle from a supermarket). I was wondering if anyone on here has tried this and if they had good results or not? I've always had sensitive skin and my nose is red a lot (something I have never managed to fix apart from by covering with foundation) so would be interested in trying a natural approach to skin care. bluekarin
theres a topic on Green Thinking about this. I've tried it and found my skin felt really nice, but I always got a bit of oil in my eye and then my vision went all blurry
xScrunchee
Yep-I use oil to cleanse and moisturise my skin I use mixtures of castor oil, grape seed, olive, sunflower, almond etc. Not all at once though I normally use 2 mixed together and I only use castor oil once in a while because it is very cleansing but a little drying too. I also use aloe vera (Straight off the plant) every evening. My skin has never looked so good. If I didn't have a terrible camera phobia I would show you
patsylabrador
I do, especially avocado, green if you can get it. I love the effect on my skin and supplement it with a tiny bit of skin nanny from lush. My skin never has that drawn feeling you sometimes get and still looks fairly fresh during this winter. That could of course be because I don't dust the mirrors, gives you a slightly airbrushed look!

Happy-Mama
thanks just looked up the other thread and it all sounds very promising. It never occured to me that my thread was a green one Can't use avacado unfortunately as it makes my skin go all blochy Has anyone any advise on what is good for a red nose? Do you get the aloe vera off your own plant Jay?
xScrunchee
Yes I do Jen, I've got some babies that I have grown on and would happily send you one but I'm not sure if it's ok to post them during this cold weather, plus, it would take them a while before you could harvest the leaves as they are only small at the mo. Maybe have a look on ebay for some bigger ones that you could use straight away??
Happy-Mama
Thanks Jay will have a look. how do you get the aloe vera out without killing the plant or is that why you grow the baby ones ? sorry i don't have a clue but am very interested in learning
xScrunchee
All you have to do is cut a section of one of the outer leaves off and it does not kill the plant, it just seals over the cut with no ill effects You then use the piece you cut off. In fact it can last quite a while in the fridge. Each time you want to use it-take it from the fridge, if it's a large bit, cut a piece off, slice it in half length ways and rub the gooey gel onto your skin. If it starts to dry out-just scratch the fleshy bit and it bursts more cells and produces more gel. I have some links to Aloe sites-would you like them? As my explanation sounds a bit complicated
Happy-Mama
Thanks Jay. yes please links would be good though your explanation was good too Am going to see if the garden centre has any
xScrunchee
http://www.squidoo.com/health-benefits-aloe-vera http://tipnut.com/aloe-vera-plant-growing-usage-tips/ Here's a couple of good ones but if you need further info, just typing aloe vera into google brings up tons They may well have some in the garden centre so it's worth a look. My only advice would be to get the biggest one you can afford cos it takes them a while to get big
Lesley
I bought some plants last year - you have to make sure that they are the proper medicinal ones........I can't remember who I bought them from but I'll have a look. Edit: I've found this http://the-plant-directory.co.uk/aloe-vera-the-medicinal-aloe-p-2869.html?currency=GBP the medicinal one is Bardenensis or something like that..........I have a 9 year old hassling me for breakfast
