wombatally
So, when someone asked my significant other how many chooks he had I was about to correct him when he said about thirty, we have 23. I say about to correct him but I realised the damage it could do to his male pride if I undermined him. So, I did the only thing I could. While he was out today I popped to glencroft and made the numbers up to thirty, well thirty one but who's counting. It was the only kind thing to do!!! Ha ha. It's a good job he can't tell the difference!

emchook
Just thought id let you know that I just read this post out to my darling OH .. and he just shook his head in disgust and rolled his eyes at me I think I should have kept these tactics secret for future exploitation
wombatally
Emchook, they forget! When are they going to invent camouflage chickens?! Oh, patent that!!!
Couperman
ooh, Glencroft we get ours from there. The pricing is a bit strange. It works out cheaper to buy 6 than 5. So if you only want 5, buy six and chuck one back over the fence on the way out! That of course would never happen I love their dog, too. It's strange you need to use underhand tactics to extend you flock. Not necessary with me I am as bad as Cathy on that score. We were going to get another three or four but it's cheaper to buy six you know Kev.
Egluntyne
Your tactics are spot on. Let's be having a look at some pictures.

wombatally
AAhg, how frustrating. I took a load of pics this morning and I have hit my monthly upload on Flickr, so while I wait for more space here is the one I managed to upload... Ixworth is in the front. I put them all in together last night, covered them all in red mite powder so they smell the same. When they came out this morning they had the pecking order barney and are now all free ranging happily together. I would point out that this method of intros works well for us as we have a big shed that they live in and they free range in the field which is huge. I'd not do this if we only had a few in not much space. Also, we have spare houses dotted around in case it doesn't work as planned. I have spotted that the RIR has very crooked toes - am kicking myself for not noticing this yesterday. Not sure what to do, it's a 160 mile round trip back to the breeder and not one I can make in the next few weeks (I'd only come back with MORE anyhow). I will email them a pic of her toes but what do you think - can they manage okay with crooked toes Should have said I got 2 columbines, a blue haze, white star, copper black and a pied sufflok, as well as an ixworth and the crooky rir (they weren't on my original list!!) Will upload more pics soon!!

tom123
Love it Crooked toes, I have a hen with them and she is fine but keep any eye on it and if it get's worse maybe take her to the vet? I don't know what they would do though Lovely girls
