Just candled the hatching eggs that have been in the incubator 5 days. All 6 are fertile unbelievable!

 

Have decided to take advice given to me, admitting defeat Have decided to buy a big coop which is raised and has a run attached which can be covered will hold up to 12 medium sized birds, so moving all the new born polands (when old enough) and also the already born Polands into that coop

Quite pleased I have most of it sorted out now, will buy the coop when i have a bit mre money - worked out it will be 2020 by the time i break even selling the chickens eggs im sure it wont be long, but its been worth the money!

 

Was wondering if the silkiies should be going in the new coop i buy they seem pretty alright outside, anyone got any recomendations - dont really want silkies breeding with polands if they go in the same run.

If I was you Chris, if you are serious about breeding to sell and selling Hatching eggs, then have a think about doing this...

 

In the new house & run you buy keep your Chamois Polands only.

 

In the coop you have currently keep the silkies but provide them with a large shelter. I would make something with 4 legs, about 2 foot high with clear plastic roofing and hang their feeder from under here too so they have somewhere to eat in the dry. You could buy some more wire mesh and fence them into one corner.

 

When/If your Gold Laced Polands are old enough to go outside then buy/build yourself another coop like the one you are planning to buy.

 

If I am correct, you have a very large, fenced area with your chooks in currently? If you fence the silkies into one corner and have the polish in separate coops & runs, then in the space left over maybe think about getting yourself 4-6 Hybrid Hens to supply you with eggs to sell/eat?? You could just buy yourself a 6x4 shed which would be big enough to section in half. Half for the laying hens and the other half for your growers?

 

Just an idea as, if you're serious, you will need to house them all separately to avoid cross breeding.

wow, lots to think about, yer all sounds good, will do that. And yes i do want to be seriuos about this breeding so will have to get another coop eek might try and find some way of attaching the house onto the coop and then adding myown run to make the polands in same place and not look like there are runs dotted all over the place Thanks for the advice

I never thought it would be 6 out of 6 - though have to see how many actually hatch - its early days, will have another check in about 10 days to get the real iew on things!

 

And think im steering in the right direction now
