Magso12
I'm new to chicken keeping - only 3 weeks in. One of my two Gingernut Rangers is not very well. She seemed fine yesterday, today she has spent most of the time in the eglu, she's not eating and one of her eyes is closed. Can't see any pus or discharge, but she can't open it. She's definitely under the weather. Any ideas please?
Falkor
Did the chooks come with the eglu from Omlet? If so I would give them a call from some advice.

Are you able to pic her up and have a look to see if there is something in there? I would give Onlet a call if I were you. I have sent emails in the past and it takes a while for them to respond. Magso12
Have just bathed her eye - there was a slight discharge that had glued it together. It is now open, can't see anything in the eye itself, but I will be watching her closely. Hope it's nothing serious. Got a peck for my trouble Yes they did. I have emailed them. Redwing
try Brolene eye drops from the chemist (not licenced for use on chickens in the UK) or the Boots equivilent (but no other types) this will clear up any minor infection You'll have to convince the pharmacist that your son/daughter/neighbour/elderly relative has an eye problem though (say its 'gammy' that makes them recoil...) I always say that NHS direct advised it If it doesnt get better isolate the hen and take her to the vet
