I've just renewed our EHIC cards online though the NHS website.

 

I was somewhat surprised, on Googling how to renew them, that the first 2 search results (http://www.ehic.org and http://www.ehic.co.uk) both charge £9.95 per application for the privilege.

 

THIS IS A FREE CARD .

 

So, don't be duped into paying for your card .

We got ours a few weeks ago.

 

Its a superfast service too as our cards arrived within 4 days of application

I did recently have occassion to request a copy of my driving record, from our much admired DVLC. Three weeks later they wrote back and said £5 please. It must cost that to send me the letter. More to deal with further correpondance.

Sorry maybe being very dumb but do these cards now replace E111 forms? Do you need one if traveling around europe for free health care?

I can confirm that they work brilliantly . ES had hospital treatment for a broken collarbone in Italy two years ago and all I had to do was hand over the card to the ambulance man and that was it. Not even a form to sign .

We did ours last year and they came really quickly.

It's the same with ESTA that needs to be done for the USA. At the moment it's free to do but websites have been set up charging people.
