Cinnamon
Got my renewal quote today....................£1062!!! I am sure it was about £600 last year,& we have never, ever made a claim in over 25 years. So I had a look about online & have bought it via M&S instead for £400,no excess,no quibbles,no having to say how much it will cost to rebuild your house AND it includes new for old & away from home cover, which the other one did not. I am rather looking forward to calling up Direct Line & telling them to sling their hook
Patricia W
That's seem typical of Direct Line. First year very reasonable then a hefty hike. Glad you found a replacement. Tricia

Old Speckled Hen
Blimey They must think you live in a mansion My house has 4 bedrooms and my house insurance is about £
Cinnamon
I know - I phoned them & it had gone up £450 from last year. They said last years was 'cheap' because I got a discount, but couldn't tell me what the discount was for..... I suspect that they play on the 'just renew it automatically' thing Mine would have done that on April 1st....April fool for me! Anyhow,I am very happy with the M&S deal, whcih was NOT the cheapest, but has the cover we need (Hubby is a builder & has a garage full of expensive toys/tools)
docsquid
That sounds like a good saving. We pay less than the direct line quote and that includes insurance for the business we run from home including all our stock!
annettec
We are with M and S and have had no problems ! Haven't claimed though ! but price did not jump up this year on renewal either. Well done on the saving
Alis girls
we had the same with the car insurance and OH managed to get them down. others sound reasonable till they start adding extras. The legal teams they use for disputes are rubbish too.Glad you got a good deal
Olly
I think it's pretty much standard practice to hike up the renewal premium on the basis that a certain percentage of your customers won't bother to shop around, and another percentage (of which I am sometimes one ) will leave it too late to look for other quotes! Direct Line seem to do this in particular, it's always worth ringing them up when you get another quote to see if they can reduce it. That's an astonishing increase, though. Well done on finding a better deal.
Charlottechicken
Yes, well done on the new quote, Cinnamon I recently renewed my household insurance, they wanted £30 more than previous year, I ended up getting it over £90 cheaper than the renewal (that's with an amount of cashback via Quidco). Paid £117.50 in the end, for buildings and contents.

Thing is,I was so cross that even if I had got them to reduce it,I wouldn't want them to insure me any more anyhow
