fluffyknickers
I complete my tax return for my very small business on line. Today I received an email - it was sent to my junk mail box. It is from secure@hmrc.gov - something like that and has the logo on it and even the Business link logo and looks very official. It states that after completing my tax return I am due a rebate and to click on to an external link to complete it. Well I first thought 'good news' and went to click on it but something just made me think. So i googled it and seems that they sent scam emails from lots of different email addresses. I am guessing if I am due anything from the lovely tax people I will get snail mail. Just be warned. michelle
bluekarin
Thanks for letting us know. I have heard them say all correspondence from them is sent via the fear inducing brown envelopes
docsquid
I have now developed the habit of never clicking on any link in any e-mail unless I know the person who has sent it and know that it is something I am expecting. Anything purporting to be from a bank or other financial institution will be a scam as banks/fo's never communicate via e-mail.
kinsk
Yup, have had a couple of these. Bit like the ones from the banks I don't have accounts with
chickenNutter
A good rule of thumb for these things is whether they address you by name rather than 'customer'. I get a lot of Paypal scam stuff, but Paypal will always send things addressed to you by name whereas the scam stuff is addressed to 'paypal customer' I would think that banks and HMRC and most reputable organisations would be the same. Patricia W
I had one purporting to be from DHL with a message about a parcel they couldn't deliver. Turned out to be a scam. Tricia
SarahJo
I was warned about this a while ago - sorry did not share The link takes you to a rebate page and asks for bank details, they then empty your account

Mrs Webmuppet
If anyone does get any of those scam emails pretending to be from HMRC, can you send them to : phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk they are trying to get something done about the scamsters.
