As long as you make people aware that you may not always have eggs available, or the number of eggs that they want, there shouldn't be a problem. My customers all know that I sometimes have enough eggs and sometimes don't.

It can also be helpful to price your eggs at £1.20 or £1.50 per box so that if you only have, say 4 eggs available, you can sell for 20p/25p per egg. I used to charge £1.20 but then people kept commenting how cheap they were, so I put them up to £1.40 (£1.50 seemed too big an increase for some reason). However, I've quickly learned that 23.3333333p per egg is a bit of a headache! Might have to go up again at some point to make the maths easier

I also give my phone number out, so that people can phone ahead and check if they really need eggs, but you might not feel happy doing this.

I sell one box of 6 each week to someone who works with DS, he pays £2, his price, he gets mixed colours green, white and perhaps one brown one. He used to keep chickens so appreciates good eggs

 

I took some into school a while ago and sold them £1.50 for 6 and gave the money to Help for Heroes as someone was doing a 10k run to raise money for them.

 

Mostly I just give them to family and friends.

I am still selling eggs at work at the same price of £1.20 for 6. I have 4 regular customers who have a box a week, 2 customers who have a box every couple of weeks and the occasional customer as well. The box has a mix of brown, white and green eggs.

 

My boss who is a weekly customer is coming to collect 2 dozen eggs on Wednesday as he has family visiting. We are on holiday from work at the moment so he will be travelling 25 miles to collect them. Makes me feel good that my girls eggs are worth a 50 mile round trip plus the cost of the petrol

While we were on holiday on the Isle of Skye last week, I was quite taken with the smart, wooden "egg boxes" outside a couple of the houses. One of them contained other home-made / home-grown produce too and had a price list and honesty box. This photo doesn't do it justice as it was a pretty grey day (make that a grey week), but the sign on the front says "Free Range Eggs". I thought it might be of interest to some of you thinking of selling from home.

 

 

I sell surplus eggs @ £1 for 6 LF or 10 bantam - well, the husband does as he takes them to the pub at the weekend (and gets mugged at the door for them!)
