Smiler33
I give the girls a big yogurt pot full (about 400g). I tend to put them straight onto the floor but they of course bury them with the wood chippings and then spend all their time uncovering them and eating them. I do put a few into the Grub we have but it only seems to be Tikka who eats from that really. What is the best way to feed them - is it best to do it 'naturally' like I'm doing and letting them find it themselves, or should I be using a proper feeder? They have all morning to find them as I let them out to free range around 12ish now. Sorry for the dim question (yet again!)
Egluntyne
Put them in a grub or other type of feeder. Scattering their main food on the floor of the run is not advised as they may ingest worm ova that are lurking, and also it will attract vermin. If it is in a in a feeder, it can be brought in at night to lessen the chances of this.
Redwing
I totally agree with Egluntyne Also when old food mixes with bedding in the run and gets damp it starts rotting and the smell is absolutely horrific, many people who have problems with smelly chickens runs will find thatits because their hens spill food

chickyhazel
If they won't eat from the grub, show them a handful of corn, let them eat a tiny bit from your hand then throw it into the grub. They should get the idea.
