Lewis
Whats best to use around the bottom of a WIR to keep aubiose etc. in? I was thinking of getting some wood/skirting board type stuff to go around the bottom, but then thought about using clear perspex Photos would be appreciated
Plum
I think wood would be easier to fix and look neat if you can stain it the same colour as your run. You could see them through perspex though but it's really hard to cut and not leave sharp bits Sorry not a lot of help I'll go and put the washing on

theherd123
I was thinking of getting some wood/skirting board type stuff to go around the bottom, but then thought about using clear perspex I have wooden ones about 5 inches high on my WIR but I was thinking about putting a higher perspex one on and this would save time in the winter instead of adding the usual IKEA shower curtains. If you do go with perspex I'd love to know how you get along.
legend21
Hello Lewis, I am going to get skirting as they have started throwing the auboise out of their lovely WIR, little madams Jackie
Lewis
I wanted to use skirting board but didn't think it'd be high enough, then wood any higher you won't be able to see them in it You can get wet + dry paper (a bit like sandpaper) which smooths the perspex edges, we use it when we change Hughies vivarium doors. Might have a go at it; I thought we'd drill holes in it and use cable ties to attach it to the panels .... and as father suggested it, it'll mean he can't moan about it
Lorimer73
I have just made some WIR pannels and I used decking boards as kick boards, which you can buy from B & Q £2.98 for 2.4m.
Tutti Frutti
I have just made some WIR pannels and I used decking boards as kick boards, which you can buy from B & Q £2.98 for 2.4m. Bargain! I bought a pack of pressure treated larch-lap featheredge planks (10 x 1.8m) which cost about £1 each in B&Q or Wickes. I just cut them to the exact length so they're a snug fit - no drilling or hammering (but might if they ever become loose). I doubled them up round most of the run but trebled it behind the feeding station to stop food being flicked outside and attracting wild birds/vermin
Redwing
I used feather edge boards too, you can overlap them slightly Lewis so you can have them higher than skirting board but lower than two lots of skirting board Whatever you do fix them inside the mesh and then go outside and staple gun the mesh to them from the outside, if you put them outside the mesh the gap will fill with bedding

Tutti Frutti
staple gun the mesh to them from the outside Cracking idea, job for tonight! Thanks Redders
Lewis
I went for clear plasticcy polycarbonate sheets in the end We went to look at perspex, and B&Q only had 1 sheet, and it was really think stuff so expensive. Got 4 sheets of polycarbonate for just under £30, and its really easy to cut with a stanley knife and screw straight to the wood - doesn't split like perspex Will get a photo later
Cooks
clever clogs I am seriously thinking of using a strip opf that at the top of my wir where the rain lashes sideways and the 6ft fence doesn't quite protect it enough...
Lewis
Just putting photos here too Put it behind the ikea rails to try + keep grubs dry - might put another layer above. Really easy to cut around the bottom of the door too
batcatz
That looks great Lewis! Now I'm wondering whether to use skirting boards or buy some of that!
