NessG
We have 3 chickens all the same age and bought from the same place a month ago. 2 are laying well and in rude health. Queenie however, is lethargic, had been passing the odd yellow frothy poo, eats and drinks but not well and is generally very quiet and subdued. Not in lay and showing no signs of it. Also not putting on weight and is a bag of bones. We love her to bits as she is very affectionate - perhaps because she hasn't the energy to run away like the others. Dosing them all with Flubenvet as I think she has worms. My question is - how long before it should take effect and if she doesn't improve what else could it be? She seems to have stopped the yellow poos which is a start but still struggling with energy levels this morning. She's been on Flubenvet for 2 days (this is day 3.) Any ideas/advice would be very welcome as I am worried sick and can't think what else I can do. Thanks guys
The Dogmother
You'd need to complete the whole 7 days fo the dosing for it to be really effective, although some people report improvements before then. After your've finished the course, if she still has a dodgy tum (don't forget that the odd yellow, frothy poo is normal) then give her Bokashi Bran in natural live yoghurt for a couple of days as that usually stabilises their gut. I also find that apple cider vinegar in the waterworks a treat.
NessG
Thanks - that helps me to stop panicking. Is apple cider vinegar the same as ordinary cider vinegar you cook with or is it a special kind? I keep hearing about it but don't know if I can just raid by kitchen cupboards. Tried her with some oats and live yoghurt but she is not interested this morning - will try later. She is very fussy as she is not that interested in fod right now. The Dogmother
You need to proper live ACV, Crossgate Bioenergetics do one, as do Life-Guard Naturals. The ones sold in supermarkets aren't 'live' and thus not beneficial.
sjp
I'd give them some lifeguard after you finnish worming to
Carol U
ACV is great for perking up appetites when chickens have been off colour. You can buy it in the sort of shops which sell horse products and chicken feed etc. I use 5ml per litre of water and it seems to do the trick. You could also try tempting her with treats e.g. mealworms, corn, grapes or anything small which might get her started again. Good luck.
