buffie
Just wanted to post this here, having a bit of a weep because our cat maisie has revertd to a feral cat once more. We adopted her 4 years ago and tried hard to make her a domesticated cat but over the years we had to keep her in more and more and this time we let her out she isn't wanting any contact with us. I see her in the field. I finally called wood green today and they confirm she is feral. It's all a bit final and sad now. I have said we will be happy to let her live her life this way as it seems cruel for them to come and trap her and take her away. So she'll live in the fields now She's happy, surprised I feel so upset as I knew what to expect BBx

Guest
Sorry about Maisie Buffie Our cat is a little like that, when we moved house we kept him in for a while but when we let him out he wouldn't come back in the house and lived in a tree in the garden for a while He now lives very cosily in the shed and we even put a cat flap in it for him He will occasionally come in the house if the door is open but won't have the door closed behind him I think Harry would love to have him in the house all the time but even he can't tempt him to stay inside
Cinnamon
Thats so sad - we do get attatched to them, don't we? I guess its just in her nature to be feral - a free spirit if you like
The Dogmother
Buff, it's like the old saying about friends/lovers - 'if you love them enough then let them go'.
buffie
Thanks feeling reflective now and had my cry. I knew it was kindest for her but having to accept that's that was a bit difficult. I've had the other's all giving me alot of attention, the raw meat just arrived so that took my mind off it. Lucky to have them and yes Clare if you love them let them go Ok back to work , thanks BBxx

Cate in NZ
Buffie, so sorry, what a wrench, but you're giving her the freedom to live the life she chooses, and the way that her instincts guide her. I hope that she has a happy life, and no real hardships, wandering free in the fields, and with any luck you'll continue to see her from time to time. Nicola H
Sorry to hear about Maisie Buff, our cat was the same she was born on a farm and her dad was feral she lived in the field at the back of the house and we put food out for her for 10 years. Last year she finally returned to us and now lives inside she very rarely goes out, she is 11 and has arthiritis in her back legs so can't jump so well. You never know when Maisie gets old she may come back, Moppet now sleeps with Emily at night and will let Emily carry her round but if anybody else goes near her she is not happy.............Cats are very strange creatures. harveypup
Aww how sad! There used to be a big old Tom cat lived in the fields at the back of our old house when I was younger - a real independent old boy. I used to leave cat biscuits out for him and he had a box in the car port with an old towel in it. We never actually saw him in the box as he was always gone by the time we got there but we know he slept there because he left his black and white fur (and fleas!!) there. Even though he never came in the house and became our pet as such I loved him dearly and it made me feel better to know to know that he could shelter somewhere warm and dry if he needed to. I'm sure Maisie too will come back if she needs you. Big hug coming your way (((((HUG)))))
