ChickenTracey
I had a Miss Pepperpot and a Gingernut Ranger from Omlet 8 weeks ago and was told by the man setting up the Eglu that they were both 4 months old. My Pepperpot laid an egg the following day and has laid daily since. However, my Gingernut hasnt. I suspected the ages of them were wrong as the Gingernut was smaller than the pepperpot and has grown since being here. She is ok and eats...though no where near as greedy as my Pepperpot Any ideas on when she will lay..or is she a breed that waits till it is much warmer? Thanks for any advice and/or suggestions
Ain't Nobody Here
Some hens just take ages to get going . You'll just have to wait, I'm afraid .
ChickenTracey
I dont mind waiting at all..i was just a bit concerned. I'm a first time chicken mummy so all new to this. Thanks for that
Redwing
the Gingernuts are hybrids and so dont usually stop laying in the winter so she probably isnt waiting for warmer weather, i'd say your guess that they are different ages is probably correct and the reason for lack of eggs The Gingernut's face will get redder and her comb will get bigger when she is close to lay, she may also crouch for you - when they start to do this they normally lay their first egg within a couple of weeks fingers crossed
Mollie333
Hi I have 2 gingernut rangers, and they laid 3 weeks after purchasing them. i have 3 pekin bantams and i brought them december 1st 09 and they have only just started to lay (15th march 10), but my 2 Silkie x Pekins that i also brought december 09 don't lay. We was also belived that they are older, but they are no way as old as my pekins. I wouldn't worry your pepperpot is probably older, the gingernut just needs to mature i think Fingers crossed and good luck!
ChickenTracey
she may also crouch for you - when they start to do this they normally lay their first egg within a couple of weeks fingers crossed She is doing this lots at the min. I only have to go near her and start to bend and she crouches. This is very new as before i had to actually touch her. Ooooo...could this be a sign she is close to lay??? Awww...bless my little girl. Thanks folks for your replies. They were much appreciated.
