Kenilchick
Here I am ordering materials and started worrying . Please reassure me - that you don't need planning permission for a WIR . It is going right next to the fence that runs down our garden and will be 7ft x 15ft ish. Worrying cos last year had a bad experience with the neighbours at the bottom of our garden . My husband had lost his job and started building a treehouse for the kids in the 3 Leylandii at the bottom of the garden (he always promised the kids he'd do that) . It's really well screened from all the neighbours and is a thing of beauty (him being a perfectionist!). When he was all but done (just ladder, doors and window shutters to do) there was a knock on the door - Planning Enforcement!!!! . Long story but neighbours at the bottom had complained (they could hear the hammering and after much parting of vegetation could glimpse something) and we had to apply for retrospective planning (£150 and alot of hassle). They granted it for 5 years then we have to take it down or reapply. We had the neighbours from the bottom around (at their request). We were very nice, they weren't . Turns out they are older - no kids but a big 5 bed house in family area (and "the noise is unbearable" from our children when they play in the garden. Our bamboo cuts out alot of light to their garden (when we bought this house there wasn't a house at the bottom of our garden so we put some bamboo in for privacy for us! It and 10 other houses got built despite our protests 5 years ago on the gardens of two houses) and also "you have chickens don't you? They attract rats". To them we are the neighbours from hell Now I'm worrying we're going to have more complaints if we build a WIR. Any advice???
Kenilchick
Me again Think I'm OK. Been doing some research on Warwick Council website and says Class E structure which I think a poultry run would be, is allowed within 2M of boundary providing overall height isn't greater than 2.5M. I managed to answer NO to all the questions on their self-assessment form anyhow. http://www.warwickdc.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/F5B7B05C-981E-4F6D-96DB-FC2F65D85B4F/0/DomesticSelfassessmentFormClassEV41.pdf Bet someone complains though
Redwing
I wa sgoing to say no but you have already sussed that If I was you I would get a WIR run that is made of panels so that you can put it together with the least noise possible If they complain just say that you know you are within your rights to build a temporary structure under x height and that having a WIR with small holed wire would actually lessen the chances of a rat problem
chick wiggle
Im sorry your having problems with your neighbours, some people just arnt happy unless they have something to complain about At least you now know you have right, the law and omlet power on your side! Oh, and dont forget the pictures
atsw
As others have said, Planning Permission is not required, so you can rest easy on that. Also, the noise from the construction will be less than when your OH built the tree house because it won't involve much banging or hammering. For the most part you'll simply be screwing panels together. If you are making the panels yourself, then staple the mesh to the panels at a location that's as far from ear-shot as possible. The staple-gun can make quite a racket and you'll use a lot of staples to hold the all the mesh onto all the panels. Andrew
Kenilchick
Thanks for the replies. "We" (I'm supervising and chief build supporter ) are indeed building it from scratch. Planning on picking up the wood tomorrow. I think the weather may make it necessary to assemble all the panels in the conservatory anyway, which should minimise the noise and alerting the nasty neighbours. I'll keep you posted on progress
chick wiggle
We also like 'progress' photos
Plum
Good luck. I understand things are easier to avoid planning permision if it's a movable structure which using panels would be.
Space Chick
Hope all goes well in the building
Lewis
I checked the regs and there wasn't a problem - there'd only be the one lot of neighbours that would complain but they stuck their head over the fence while I was out there and were fine Good luck
