Kermit
Just had a play today with the macro mode on my compact digital camera. This was after being inspired by a talk at the RDBKA. Was very impressed. We could now play a game of name that pollen

Old Speckled Hen
We have a very large pussy willow down the lane and it was absolutely buzzing this afternoon. You could hear it yards away

Olly
Wow - great photos! I believe willow pollen is a bright yellow. My bees have been bringing in a range from yellow to ochre to a creamy colour. I don't mind, there is lots of it and that's the main thing!
MedusA
What fabulous pics! My bees have been bringing in pollen of all shades - from pale yellow to bright orange. Like Olly, I'm not sure what it is, just glad the bees are finding it.
Kermit
A few more photos taken yesterday. Not mowing the lawn at the moment, as there is so much dandelion flowering... Hope these are of interest.
Old Speckled Hen
lovely You must be somewhere warm. Zillions of dandelions here, infact I've never seen so many BUT cold

Old Speckled Hen
Really gorgeous warm sunny day. The first for a while. I think this is a buff tailed bumble.
Daphne
You do take the most brilliant pix and you've got an Icelandic poppy (?) out. I've been watching bumbles sticking their noses down gone-over flowering kale; I must go and get my identification book out.
Old Speckled Hen
The yellow poppies grow like weeds here and the bumbles love them. You sometimes catch them vibrating very loudly in them. Then they come out covered in pollen as if to say,"who me?" I found out recently that this loud buzzing is the bee trying to resonate with the flower. When it reaches the right pitch the anthers explode to release lots of pollen. Wonderful how insects and flowers have evolved so perfectly together. Daphne
I'm in awe - do you enter the photos in competitions or have them displayed around your house? They are so beautiful; they are very cheering. Do you do chickens as well?
Old Speckled Hen
Daphne, you are too kind. I just like the colours. They are not sharp enough for publication but they please me Chooks won't stay still and end up like foreshortened dinosaurs in any pictures I take, but I am getting a pair of Vorwerks to add to the menagerie so will try better.
