shoura
I want to inspect my chook's tummy and apply tea-tree cream to some sore-looking bits. I tried holding her almost on her back but she got very stressed and just sat there panting, beak wide open when I put her down after a few seconds. Is there a good way to do this without stressing them?
Chucky Mama
I would get someone else to hold or inspect. She will be much happier if she is securely held by a second person.
shoura
hmmmmm---I'll have to find a friend who won't mind helping me!!! They all enjoy my girls' eggs after all, it's the least they can do!!!
Gelbel
Oh - no worries - I'll send my next door neighbour's little girl round. My girls have been FRing since about 1pm - and they are quite vocal with it. The neighbour and her daughter have not long left after coming in to see the girls and Aimee (I think she's about 5) was amazed as she's never been up close to them before - her Mum kept chooks as a child in Germany. Cissie, bless her, was well behaved enough for a cuddle from me and a nervous stroke (i.e. semi-whalloping on the head ) from Aimee for about a minute or so. She left after telling her Mum she wants to sleep in the coop with the girls tonight. I am sure she will hold your chook upside down for you! WitchHazel
HI, If you do this, make sure you have at least one finger between their feet. If you crush their legs together when you hod them upside down it causes them excrutiating pain (I can't remember if its when the ankles or the knees touch, one or the other). Mollie333
Hi.. I agree, get a secand person to help. i think its when the ankles touch they get a horrifying pain, and sometimes struggle. ( recent owners did this to cheryl, showing us how to 'SLAUGHTER' her, we was horrified and told her to stop..) and when you get hit with a turkey wing to the face, OUCH! goodluck.
