refused to be sold chickens, for having an Eglu Cube!

Recommended Posts

(cube green)This morning I was refused chickens from a certain poultry breeder because I am getting an Eglu Cube! Has anyone else had this problem? I have only ever seen good reviews about the OMLET HOUSING! the following is what she wrote:

Hello,

Thankyou for your enquiry. I am sorry we do not sell to customers who have eglus, we do not agree with the eglus systems. Birds are happier and live longer when they can naturally perch at night which is not possible in the eglu as they are supplied with slats.

Kind regards

The only reason I am not buying all my chickens from OMLET is because I wanted all different breeds!

Please can you leave your comments about this as to what you think especially people who have got an eglu or have had both kinds of housing

MANY THANKS (cube green)

We have come across this attitude before. Based on old fashioned ideas and no real knowledge of the product.

I have several Eglus and a cube, and I can confirm that my hens perch happily on the roosting bars at night.

I'd take your custom elsewhere tbh.

Welcome to the forum :) .

I agree, an old-fashioned and uninformed attitude  . Look at the number of eglu and cube owners who have perfectly healthy and happy hens.

I wouldn't describe the eglu as having "slats" anyway  . The roosting bars are rounded and are in essence no different to a branch.

You'll find plenty of breeders who have no problem with the Omlet system - here is a list of breeders if you are struggling to find one.

Try Newland Grange Poultry which is near Malvern. The lady there is very nice and helpful, she also uses omlet housing so you will have no problems in that respect, she has a good range of hybrids and pure breeds she has a web site - http://www.newlandgrange.com if you want to have a look. I got my girls from Poultry Park near Newent in Gloucestershire and they were also very good. Where do you live?

Sorry to hear you have had this problem. Some people don't like change!

I've now kept hens in Eglus/Cubes for over three years, without any health problems (yes, my original hens have moved to the great coop in the sky, but not because of their living conditions!) There are people on here who've kept hens for much longer than me, and we'd know by now if the Eglu roosting bars caused problems - they don't.

I hope you can find some lovely hens from one of the breeders mentioned above.

I was going to suggest Newland Grange. They are just around the corner from me (well 3 miles) and her sons go to DS's school, so I know her reasonably well. Don't you go buying all the columbines and bluebelles though! I've got MY eye on them

I can agree with Newland Grange, my 2 new Columbines have come from there, and they are such lovely people, and their chickens are in lovely condition. They also have a fantastic selection of breeds.

I agree....especially with CookieMonster!!

I would be glad of the email to be honest, it would prove to me that they are not the people to buy my hens from, I would rather buy from more knowledgable breeders

:clap::dance:

They clearly have never seen an Eglu and are going on ill-informed hearsay!!!

The place I got my hens from are very pro-Omlet!! They don't sell Eglu's there but have one on display so people can see all the options available!! I was looking to buy some Citricidal and thought I'd see if they had it or knew where to get it. They'd never heard of it and asked where I had learned about it....I said "Omlet!"

"Oh! We'd best look into it then!" :D

Thank you for all your posts, they have been so helpful. I have been in touch with PREMIUM POULTRY and hope to reserve some chickens on Saturday all being well, I also found NEWLAND POULTRY today on the net, they are further away, but will be my second choice! Can't wait to get my cube! (cube green)GNRPP

hi

we got our first chickens from omlet but then got two from annie hall in between bath and bristol.

first 2 are now RIP but have upgraded to a cube and got 4 from Annie yesterday.

she sells wooden hen houses and all the extras you can think of but is pro omlet.

if you are in the bath / bristol area she is well worth a visit.

all the birds we have had from her are strong and healthy and there is the added fun of stalking the chicken that you have your eye across the field!

really saddened to hear of your experience

In the end I went to Newland Grange in Newent as Premium Poultry never got back to me before a certain date. I'm so glad I did! I have been back several times since. The lady is really lovely and helpful. Going back again soon as my husband has fallen in love with the Buff Orpingtons!

We went there today for for etc. and she does have some lovely lavender orpingtons as well - you could always have a range of colours

I love the lavenders too, but as far as I can tell on her website, none are for sale at the moment,I will put an order in soon, I've got to buy another eglu first! just wish there was a cheaper alternative!

Salbo, out of interest which breeder refused to sell you hens if they were to be keep in a cube, just so I know for future reference?

Is was quite a few months ago now, and I've deleted the email, so I can't be 100% sure, but I have an idea of who it was, but wont say just in case I am wrong.
