MedusA
Now the weather has warmed up (a bit), the bees are always out and about looking for water. I came up with this idea of using an unused chicken drinker, and made it bee friendly by filling the rim with gravel. The bees can drink without risk of drowning, and I'm not constantly having to fill it up. Seems to work.

Lesley
Brilliant idea! We have a water butt next to the bees, with a dish under, but that makes much more sense.
Peaches
Excellent idea - I've just gone out and copied it! Thanks
MedusA
Glad to be of service. I can report that the bees are continuing to use the drinker. In fact there seem to be more every day. My only problem will be when I need to fill up the reservoir. I'll have to shoo off many bees. On second thoughts, I think it may be best to do it at night. TheChookKeeper
I saw this very idea in use at a bee auction I went to in Kent last week... I got all excited, and felt the need to tell someone that I saw someone suggest that on the Omlet forum... fortunately, I was related to the people I told... and they're used to me

Macfoy
I have to confess I tried it with an old drinker, but decided life was too short to mess about with the gravel whenever it needed re-filling, so I used an unused cat litter tray instead and half filled it with pea gravel. This is now a very popular bee watering hole, easily refillable with a watering can . Macfoy
