AJuff
I am going with a friend tomorrow to help her choose some hens to fill her new cube. The place she is going to has spekeldys and I love them! I am wondering if i should get two new girls but i can't think of any reasons to justify them. I have nine hens, lots of different egg colours, they are comfortable in a cube together, the run is the right size . . . how can I explain why i'd like two new hens? LuckyChickenLover-
Just because you want some more! If you have enough room and money to house them then why not? I'd recomend maybe buying another eglu or a run extension so that they have enough space though.
Gelbel
Because you're worth it.
AJuff
Well I have a spare green eglu that is just sitting about empty. Now that seems a waste to me . . . . . I kept it for introductions and sick hens. Also I calculated that my walk in run can accomodate 14 hens comfortably and they also have the side garden to trash too. LuckyChickenLover-
In that case, if you have plenty of room, why not!?

AJuff
Think I'll attach the run to the eglu and put it in the walk in run in the morning! Maybe OH won't notice.

AJuff
Well I went to Durham Hens with my friend today. What an amazing set up! Hundreds of beautiful happy hens free ranging together in the lovely sunshine. Plenty of food, water and places to shelter and dustbathe. DD1 (11) DS (10) and DD2 (6) came along too. It was DD1s turn to choose a hen since she lost her little brown Nick Delia last year. She chose a very pale ginger coloured columbine with an almost white tail and a spikey hair do! 'Ginger' went into the box. DS then chose a spekeldy for me and 'Pepper' was added to the box. I was so tempted to add a few more in as they were all sooooooo gorgeous. I had pure hen envy. DD2 was pecked on the bottom by a cockeral when she got too close to his girls! They are safely tucked up in bed in a lovely green eglu inside the walk in run. The existing girls were very vocal at their arrival and strutted round and round the run with tail feathers high. I feel a nice slow introduction coming on . . . . I took some photos but I can't find the lead to download them yet. Will try to find it before tomorrow.

AJuff
Had a new plan of action . . . I'm going to bring the new chooks into school for four weeks for the nursery and reception classes to take care of for a week each. Then I'll bring them home to integrate. Bringing school chooks home is acceptable surely. . . .
