Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

So now as well as the cats bringing them in, injuring them and then leaving them in the garden, we've now got the three hens fighting over them. I've also had to rescue a poor frog who was screaming while they chased him around. I had no idea chickens could be so vicious! Do they catch anything else?

Frogs are a favorite with my girls. closely followed by spiders and moths!

 

My blackrock will eat almost anything that moves - in one gulp. A particular favorite are the big fat slugs which have an 'orange skirt' around the bottom of them.

 

My bluebell is a terror for finding pieces of polystrene and trying to gobble them down. Many a time I have chased her around the garden trying to get it off her

a Newt (I was heaving when i saw one of them eat it )

 

 

Oh and Dog poo (They got to it before i even spotted it,Don't worry i gave my evil aunt the eggs )

 

 

and there's probably other stuff they've eaten when i haven't watched them

When we lived in Germany, my biology teacher caught a slowworm, put it in a tank and showed it to the class. I sat and very quietly mentioned to him that it was a protected spiecies. He didn't look very impressed!

I've seen a mother hen very carefully pull bits off a large moth and offer them to her chicks, while telling them how delicious it was.

At the weekend Belle and Hester were fighting to get to an earwig that was actually the other side of the run to them so they weren't going to get it themselves....... so I helped a bit

 

Then Ginger pinched it off of them

I dug worms out of the compost for mine but they didnt seem to realise they were edible so the worms made a leisurely escape back under the grass! Useless

Lola found the most enourmous green slug in the greenhouse at the weekend a proceded to batter it to death on the floor before eating it. Yuk, I dont like slugs at the best of times.

Frogs

 

The ducks were chasing each other last week, trying to steal the frog from the other one!

The frog squeaked so knew it was still alive to chased the ducks off it + it hopped away!

Well mine squabbled and whirled round when one found a wait for it ............ a crisp ES had dropped accidently on the floor. not looking forward to something live bein eaten and torn apart
