Anyone with kids will know about this - but having read the posts on here - I offered my 3 some greens. They looked at it with distaste and kicked it round the run They love boiled rice. Should I saute it in butter? add a sauce No seriously has anyone got hens who dont like greens or is it just me.

what greens have you offered them? Mine have loved brussels sprouts, and various cabbages, but they didn't like savoy cabbage very much, and they turned their noses up at curly kale...

mine were impressed with red cabbage, it was when Morrisons were selling for 30p.

I've also been looking after my mums tortoise and any dandelions he doesn't fancy they have - but the first time I gave them dandelions only Matilda ate them.

Does any know how many dandelions they can have, there are so many around at the moment ?

Mine hate curly kale, peppers and lettuce, like brussels - will try red cabbage.

Well mine turn up their beaks at savoy cabbage but LOVE spinach! Organic of course!

and mine cant stand spinach, even if I mix it in to try and hide it and they hate cabbage and broccoli of any kind.

Lettuce and sprouts and of course anything that I'm actually try to grow in the garden gets noshed here!

I cook up all the stalks of broccoli and they love that, they like butternut squash and carrots too. Mine also love boiled rice and I had to have a word with my husband this week when I caught him cooking a batch of best Basmati rice just for the chickens.

Mine quite liked purple sprouting broccoli but would not eat carrots or any other veg.....

Mine will eat anything! Sprouts,cabbage, spring greens, chard, apples,bananas... you get the idea! I think it's fairly common for them to turn their beaks up the first couple of times, but they soon get the hang of it!

I have been trying to vary their greens aswell, so this week they have had spinach, kale, cauliflower leaves, salad leaves, broccoli and then some other goodies aswell, parsnip peelings, carrots peelings and grapes

 

They like it all uncooked though, when I gave them some cooked cauliflower that was left over they weren't too impressed

Just got common old greens from Tesco I get for bun - also turned their beaks up at lettuce and grapes. I think they may be of Italian/ Indian stock as like pasta and rice. Havent tried corn or carrots

I am as I type boiling potatoes to mash for them - they love it!
