The chooks have landed!

Recommended Posts

I'm new here, I posted the other day asking for some advice and I just wanted to say I got my first four ladies yesterday! Thank you for the advice.

We brought home four lovely Goldine (aka Gingernut Rangers) and I am in love with them already. Three of them are the friendliest things ever, they were eating out of my hand as soon as we got home, however the other is a bit crazy and doesn't come too close, hoping she warms up to us a bit! They are about 17 weeks old.

I'm sure I'll be asking lots of novice chicken-related questions however my husband has had chickens before and his mother who lives me is very experienced with chickens so hopefully we'll be okay.

I barely slept last night thinking that Mr Fox might come :x (We live in a rural area with lots of foxes) but we've done the best we can to try and make sure they are secure!

Thanks everyone, I'll put up some pictures later.

Was very proud of them last night as it was their second night and they went to bed all on their own - I thought it might take longer! Missed them today as my mother-in-law will let them out on Tuesdays & Wednesdays when I am at work. Will see them when I get home though!

Saw a young fox on the driveway last night  I was listening out all night even though they should be secure.

Thanks, I think the plan is that they will mainly be in the WIR because I have to go out during the day a couple of times etc and I don't want to leave them unattended for foxy loxy to get them. We've had three foxes sitting on our lawn before in the middle of the afternoon!

We've tried to make the run as fox proof as we can but I guess there's only so much that can be done.
