craftyhunnypie
I'm normally quite good at sexing my young pekins. I think my millefleurs are both girls - even though only 2 weeks old. However, the lavenders are 3 weeks old & I think I have 1 definite boy & 2 definite girls - but unsure of just 2 of them. One has a slight comb & at first I thought boy, but now I think that too could be a girl, as the boys is so much more obvious. The final one has quite a bit of comb, but acts girlie? I'm really confused this time! They all seem pretty much feathered up at the same rate - which has also foxed me this time. No obvious hackles on the boys yet or wattles. Anyone have any pics of 3 week old lavender pekin chicks - boys & girls, so as I can compare? I feel so daft this time that they can't be sexed. I'm keeping the definite boy anyway. jam
I have some pekin chicks that are 5 weeks old this weekend. one lavender, 2 black and 3 millefleur. Im pretty sure one of the black ones is a cock, but i could be wrong. Not too sure about the others. Its just that the black one has a much bigger comb and redder wattles than the others. Shall take some pictures of them tomorrow and post them Perhaps you could post some pics so we could have a looksee at your brood Scarlett

craftyhunnypie
Thank you - that last picture has confirmed 'Red' is a boy - I might even call him Red, as it suits him - instead of his coffee name ' Costa'. The only other I'm suspicious of now is...'Blue' - as does have slightly larger comb than the others, buts acts girlie & no wattles. I've a definite 2 girls & I also think ' green' is a girl too. So hoping for 3 girls, 2 boys. I'll keep 'Red' & just pray that ' blue' is not a boy. They are all beautiful chicks, very friendly. Buttons Millefleur pekins are 1 week younger & so much smaller than the lavenders were a week ago? But very active & healthy. I'm pretty sure about those 2 being both girls. Hubby is to go and take photos of them later again. Their markings are coming through already. Emma.x
craftyhunnypie
e & hubby have placed our bets on the sex of our lavender chicks. Now I'm getting really confused, it changes every day with me. Pink, which I think is a girl has the longest tail of the lot. The others are getting their pom pom tails & a few have teeny weeny wattles starting. They are 4 weeks on Wednesday & only 1 that I'm pretty convinced of the sex. Emma.x
Redwing
I've found it very tricky with my lavenders too, they dont show as early or as clearly as the other colours I thought it was just me! maybe its a lavender thing?
