squidsin
Now I appreciate that my girls are only really happy if they are out and free-ranging - or more accurately, hanging round the back door pooing on the patio and trying to break into the kitchen! But they have to stay in their run while I am at work. When they see me, then run up and down in front of the run door, hoping to be let out, and I feel guilty leaving them there. I've hung a broccoli head up for them to play with but they don't seem all that interested. Should I put anything into their run to make it more interesting, or will they just chat to each other and watch the local birds/cats or something and actually be quite happy while I am at work? Ain't Nobody Here
If you can watch them without them knowing, I'll bet a pound of mealworms they'll peck about quite happily and not look bored at all . They're very good at emotional blackmail, little minxes .
cluckingmad
I always feel guilty when I have to go off to work and the girls desperately want to come out to play - we put in boredom breaker rings and peckablocks, which were demolished in double quick time (!), cabbages hung from therun are also meant to be good fun, as are old CD's made into a mobile (guess what I'm doing this evening?!) chickyhazel
Our chickens love the numerous perches we've made them, and also seem to like perching on the superglug and drinking. Corn or kitchen s"Ooops, word censored!"s are always loved. If you have perches, hung up treats, dustbaths, etc, and a suitably sized run, your chickens should be fine!
