I've got garden lime for my brassicas at the allotment which is like tiny little white balls. What it actually is, is ground up limestone rather than slaked or powdered lime that everyone's talking about.

If yours is the same then it won't hurt the birds but at the same time it won't have the same cleansing or sterilising effect that the other processed lime will have.

:doh::doh: Didnt think of that - i find the whole thing re disease prevetion for hens a confusing mindfield and the instructions on the tubs are ambigious to say the least. With the cats its a quick squeeze of a tube on the back of the neck once month , rabbits flyguard every 10 weeks and a bum check several times a week. With hens its ?g of this to X amount of food - aAAAH maths has nver been my strong point. I check them regulalrly - not seen anything in the Eglu and puffed powder in nest box - will do the hens tonight - but why is it sooo confusing. It isnt just me judging from the amount of posts. Please manufacturers make it simpler for chicken mums like me ( I am blonde and menopausal so you see my problem)

In that case my thoughts go out to your husband. My wife is the same, she's not blonde but she is from Essex.

Freezing cold winter nights with the windows wide open, bed covers kicked onto the floor every night... I know what he's going through.

I feel for you Tony - probably you should start a support group for men with hot, sweaty , moody women who find maths impossible - but I digress. my friend brunette, dippy but a more experienced hen mum siad if I read everything ever written re hen illness I would never have hens. I will now go and work out worming dosage - wanders off to find OH who is good at maths
