WitchHazel
Sorry to hear about your Girl. 5 years seems like an excellent age to have reached, although I imagine that's little comfort really as the flip side is she's been part of your chickeny life for so long. It's good she passed away quietly, and had been happy and eating right up to the end. In some respects it's probably better that you weren't there at the end. A couple of years or so ago now, when I'd only had chickens for a few months, one of my Girls had a heart attack and died in front of me. It was actually over very quickly - just a few seconds in fact - but it didn't feel like it at the time. It was very distressing, and I felt helpless.) HUGS to you and your other Girls. Ash
One of mine had a heart attack and died this morning. She was not very well and had slept over night in a seprate bay I made up to keep the others away from her. When I went to see how she was and give her food and water she had a heart attack in front of me. Its almost as if she waited for me to check on her before saying goodbye. It was not a very nice thing to see and anyone who has been through it will know how deeply upsetting it is. Very sad.
