Twice now when I've given the girls greens I've found them (the greens!) in the water glug. Are they trying to tell me something? if so what?

Mine turn their beaks up at greens mealworms though! Thats a different story! nearly loose an arm they see me get that bucket out of the shed

Well you soon learn what your particular girls like and don't. Personally mine love half a cabbage hung up so that they can bash it and pull off the leaves. They are less keen on lettuce. Have only had mine a couple of weeks but I am going to try spinach too.

 

They do like grapes and cherry tomatoes, but you need to cut them into 4 for them. I basically put out anything left over in the fridge or from dinner. They had a few cooked peas yesterday and seemed to like those, so might cook a few extra in future.

 

In case you haven't seen, if you give them potatoes in any form (even peelings) you need to boil them up first and make sure you don't give them any green parts.

 

What are you getting on Friday? Bet you are excited. I know I was!

We are having a eglu classic with 2 birds. A gingernut and a Miss Pepperpot, they seem to very popular.

I've found bits of lettuce in the glug too but haven't caught them dipping it in yet!

 

I was giving my girls spinach and they really liked it but I read somewhere that it has something in it that will take calcium out of the blood therefore not good for laying girls. I have no idea if that's right or not though!?

My girls share a bag of spinach with me from time to time - I've had not problems. They might get some once a month.

 

But a game of1/3 of a cabbage swingball is played every other day (ie I make a whole cabbage last a week).
