Peggy the fabulous ex-batt!

Recommended Posts

We rescused 6 ex-batts a few weeks ago to live in our field- they were not in too bad condition for ex-batts but after a couple of days we noticed one sitting in the corner of her house who was unable to move. We took food and water to her and it was obvious she hadn't managed to have any for a while.

She was scooped into a cat basket and taken home to live in a big cardboard box in the kitchen until we could work out what was wrong with her and what to do. It turned out she had a bad leg but after a couple of days started to move around but with a really bad limp. She lived in the house for a couple of weeks and we considered whether it was kind to keep her going. It soon became clear from watching her that she was happy enough- she just has a limp.

We called her peggy and introduced her to the garden girls where we can keep a close eye on her and she will live out the rest of her days happily. She is a great chicken and 'pegs' around the garden after us with her limp- it doesn't seem to be improving but she is clearly happy and can run up the garden for treats faster than the other girls.

The only problem with Peggy is that she hates the neighbours cats!! Today she cased the big bully cat out of the garden and we later noticed that she actually had a beak full of cat fur and was looking very pleased with herself  What a great Peggy!! :D

My lowest of the flock Fauna did the same thing to my Cat Tetley when she espaped into the kitcken and found poor Tetley eating from her own cat bowl. I swear she had an evil look on her face to go with the Cat fur in her beak :lol::lol:
