We are doing Reading on Friday, Exeter on Tuesday,Bath (maybe) on Thursday,University of Kent on Saturday & University of Wales in a couple of weeks...phew!

 

Am I likely to bump into any Omleteers while we are there?

OH is taking DD to Leicester on Saturday. She also wants to look at Cardiff and Southampton but I'm not sure when those visits are.

 

DS hasn't made up his mind which uni's he wants to visit yet

Best of luck.I must admit I dreaded this after going to look at Birmingham with my daughter, she did the next on the list, which was Cambridge, on her own and decided that she couldn't possibly go anywhere else so there were no more to shlep round thank heavens.

I looked round all the vet schools, wouldn't get in after AS grades

... then looked around Aberystwyth + loved it - it was the only place out of the 5 choices, that I looked around

 

Good luck - speak to students, they always seem to be the most honest

We've got the uni visits thing going on at the moment as well, but oddly enough we don't expect to be bumping into any of you .

So far Seb's looked round Waikato and was pretty impressed, but is off to Wellington to look round Massey & Vic (his 1st choice so far) next weekend, then down to Christchurch in early July. Assuming he's offered a place he'll be starting Feb 11.

DS has already been to look around Plymouth & Aberwristwyth (sp ) seems to be a coastal theme, but who knows where he'll go in the end

I am hoping that some of the lectures at these open days we are going to will really help her decide.

We're going to our first one at Birmingham next thurday. I'm quite looking forward to it!

 

At least the exams are (nearly) over now. All bar one GCSE (daughter-textiles), phew!

It's ok that she's still deciding! At least she's narrowed down her choices too-that makes life a lot easier!

 

I've narrowed it down to Optometry, Biology or Orthoptics-depends on grades really, and where I want to live!

I had to do mine on my own way back when. I went to Brighton, Newcastle and Liverpool, then only passed one A level and ended up with a pharmacy dispensing job with on the job training.

Just back from the Reading one & am totally exhausted....& its only half an hours drive away!

 

It was a really nice uni- very big,very pretty indeed & as clean & neat as you like,but there was no one to talk to in the Psychology dept apart from Admin staff,& the Classics departments fusty old men in tweed have really put her off studying that

My daughter is a bit miffed now as she's been trying to book Cardiff but the message on the website kept saying they weren't taking bookings yet and now it says they're fully booked, so now she'll have to wait until the next open day in September

 

Oh well, she's still off to Leicester tomorrow.

I only visited one local one with DD, but I also want to do a degree with them so that took some explaining.

 

Not the worst part though DD is a mature student at 22

 

She is very busy finishing her Access course at the moment.

It was for the medicine specific day Ubereglu - booking for the next general day, in September, starts in July. Unfortunately for DD next medical one isn't until next year. She did enjoy her day in Leicester today though and interestingly, overheard someone else who had the same problem with booking for Cardiff.

Just back from Birmingham. It was our first look around a Uni, and I was generally impressed. The university did a great job of making us feel welcome, with lots of "Ask Me" helpers, and maps etc. We looked around the Physics dept., and attended two lectures. One I found interesting and reasonably accessible, but the other was a bit like listening to a foreign language... Still it was a good taster, I thought.

 

Son thought the computer department reps lived up to their geeky stereotypes, and I'm afraid to say I tend to agree with him. (Sorry, guys!). Not so much going on there as in the Physics lab.

 

Took my daughter, as she's just finished her GCSEs, so will be wanting to look around unis next year. She wants to be a vet, which Brum don't do, but ended up attending a medical school lecture, and a natural sciences(? I think) lecture, and enjoyed herself, too.

 

The weather was kind, too, and we had a picnic lunch on the grass there. My feet ache now
