The water stays a lot cleaner and they are easy to clean - I just rinse them under the outside tap and bung 'em in the dishwasher.

do you put them in the dishwasher with the metal handle? never thought of that

I moved to a gravity drinker when I got my WIR - having been without the superglug for a few weeks during the move, my hens refused to go back to it, and a friend lent me an ancient galvanised gravity one - it holds much more, and keeps it cleaner although they still kick woodchip into the rim.

doesn't go in the dishwasher though, I have to scrub it with hot water!

Given that the little madams love nothing more than a nice muddy puddle to drink out of I don't worry about the bit of muck in my glug or gravity drinker (they have both and 2 rabbit drinkers). I just clean them when they need filling up and on run cleaning day whether they need it or not - in the washing up bowl as I don't have a dishwasher (well, I do but his idea of washing the dishes is pretty grim  )

I clean mine in a bowl in the garden using water from the outside tap as the grubs and glugs get so dirty that there is no way I will put them in my kitchen sink and I don't have a dishwasher. I clean the glug out every day as I heard it's important to give them clean fresh water every day so I make sure that is really clean and empty the old water onto my plants :)
