Unsecure chicken perches

Found my husband had left two of this morning's eggs on the skelter this morning, so weighed them and one was 74g and too brown to have come from our Buff Sussex, who lay usually 64g eggs. I thought it might be from one of our newly laying girls and maybe a double yolker, but when my husband cracked it we saw this:

 

 

I was so excited I think the children thought I'd won the lottery!

 

We're not sure who laid it,I thought it was Mable, but she seems to be laying now. I don't think it was dark enough to be Speckled Jim's, but if it's not Speckled Jim then it must be Millicent, our Bluebelle's first egg, or the first egg our cochin has laid since we have had her. Do cochin lay shop coloured lightish brown eggs? The yolks were small though, like the young girls eggs, so I think that makes it more likely it is one of them?

Thankyou. I didn't think we'd ever get one. My husband had never even heard of triple yolkers.

 

I think it must have been Speckled Jim's egg, as Mable was in the nest box as we went out earlier and then we came home to Mables egg, which was 60g and a double yolker! No wonder the poor girl took ages to lay it!

Congratulations! i understand they are incredibly rare, and you may get more, i got a few of these from new layers so fingers crossed for you!

We got two more double yolkers, one each from Mable and Speckled Jim today, and my Bluebelle laid her first egg ever too. (We haven't eaten hers yet)

 

The children are thrilled, as you can imagine.

 

 

Are the double yolkers OK to use in baking? Will it make any difference to cakes rising?

I have just the one chicken 'Olive' she lays an egg every 25 hours, if she is later than that it's alway's a huge egg with a double yolk, bless her! thing is when you break the egg the yolks are joined, like conjoined twins, you can see two yolks on one side but one on the other. If you hard boil one of these they are marvalous as when you slice it the yolk runs from one end right through to the other, no white slices at all. Is this normal Chris
