Chucky1
A couple of pix of our new Duck House. I put these up not so much to show off my carpentry but more to give ideas for anyone planning a new house. Approximate size is 8 feet wide, 3.5 feet high and 30 inches deep. Its constructed on a 2x2 treated timber frame, and then clad in 12mm WBP. The corrugated iron roof slopes to the rear. In the past I have made a weldmesh floor and then covered it with straw, but this does make cleaning a long job. So this effort sits on a 3 inch concrete slab. There is no floor to the house and we put about 3 inches of straw on top of the concrete. The two handles at each end of the house mean that operatives can lift the house off of the slab and the messy straw shovelled up into a wheelbarrow. There are two weldmesh ventilation panels above the doors. There are two doors and a divider in the middle because Ed and his two ladies haven't quite learned to play nicely with the five new scousers. My earlier attempt had the doors hinged at the bottom to fold down as a ramp. This was OK but the resulting gap would fillup with unsavoury things. So these doors simply clip to the front of the house. Any questions please ask. Edited July 6, 2010 by Guest

Chucky1
This was Ed, Maisey and Quacks before house: not as big or as easy to clean
Lesley
That looks great - I totally agree about it needing to be easy to clean and it sounds like you've found a good solution. Will the divider come out if they decide they can all play nicely?
Chucky1
Will the divider come out if they decide they can all play nicely? Hi Lesley. Yes it will, though I changed the design half way through and now it does provide a bit if rigidity to a relatively long narrow box and also helps to tie the roof panels in - So I'll probabaly leave it in and allow them to mix and match via the 2 doors. Also, the divider does show how much cleaner our old ducks are compared to the new. The old ducks straw would last a week or so, whereas the new is 2 or 3 days. I might just give the new ducks an ASBO.
HENthusiastic
thats a fab idea to not have a floor, so you can just pick it up and clean out. Great . Bet they are very happy quackers.
