Hypnotherapy?

Recommended Posts

My best friend had it to give up smoking. It really worked for her as she felt sick at the smell of a ciggarette. She did, however, start again a year or so later  She's thinking about trying it to use as pain relief during labour, but is not sure how successful it will be.

This may sound odd on a chicken forum, but I used to be scared of birds! It was mainly small birds, not bigger things like ducks or owls, and I desperately wanted to have chickens, but at the same time I was afraid that the bird phobia would take over and prevent me from having them. Anyone who has, or has had, a genuine phobia will understand that it isn't something you can rationalise.

Anyway - not exactly hypnotherapy, I booked a one-hour session with a therapist, it was mainly visualising situations and then reducing them in size and intensity (same technique as Paul McKenna uses in his self-help books). It worked wonders, I ordered my Eglu and haven't looked back! I can now even cope with the cat bringing in dead birds, something I never ever thought I'd achieve. Not directly helpful to you, but it's made me think that hypnotherapy probably can help with some things, and I've wondered about having it to help with losing weight. I'm very interested to see what experiences others have had.

That is exactly what I am looking at - the therapy that makes you think you have had a gastric band fitted without the operation.

Have a consultation in a week or so,but still not 100% convinced :)

I went to hypnotherapy when i was pregnant for deep relaxation and visualisation for the birth of Isabelle.

I thought it was wonderful and really did help me during my labour. :D

I hope you find your experience as good as mine

I shall tell my friend about your experience. She was a bit unsure how you were meant to get into the right state of mind in order for the hypnosis to work.

As far as i'm aware hypnosis works on 'suggestion' and you don't have to be in a certain state of mind for it to work.

I went a few weeks before my due date and loved it, i am a water baby at heart and spent most of my labour visualising i was on the beach with waves lapping the shore. Personally i found labour uncomfortable not painful and only used a small amount of gas & air. Hypnotherapy helped me to visualise and relax into my labour so im positive it can help with lots of other things too
