Chucky Mama
I have a Sony Pocket Ereader and love it. They don't do a waterproof cover yet - I use a ziplock bag. I got a pack of quite thick ones from Poundland which work a treat. You can get map bags that fit them too. There is a thread on Ereaders here *Click*
donald
Thanks very much I did look at the thread. Marks and spencers were selling Sony off last week(or had them at a reasonable price), I then started looking at Kindle too but .... Sony it is then cheers Donald
Cinnamon
I love my Kindle & would only ever trade it in when there is a version with colour e-ink. It doesn't bother me that I can just buy from Amazon,as that is where I buy all my books anyhow....As far as I am concerned the Kindle is the best
BarbaraJ
Sony fan here, i have the older design but its great
Guest
I have the Sony reader and I never buy a book! I get free e-books from the library and download a lot of e-books which are free (not fiction!) Being very sad I also seem to have about 50 exam board docs and specs on there too
Purplemaniacs
I bought OH a Sony reader for Christmas and he loves it. DD who loves books hates it, she does not think electronic books are right Chrissie
docsquid
Yes, another one for the Sony reader here. I looked at the Kindle, but being tied to Amazon really turned me off it. Plus at the time it was just the US version of Amazon and so a lot of British books were not available. The availability is excellent for the Sony, and there are a lot of free books available too. Love it.
Woodcat
Both i and my mother have sony's and we love them. I looked at the kindle but didn't like the idea of being tied to amazon.
Happy chickens!
I love my Sony - just don't like not being able to pass around books among my non-e-reading friends any more. Brill for holidays etc. Don't think I will ever give up my paper books altogether though.
Cinnamon
I have also just downloaded the Kindle app to my smartphone,& hubbys too, so for the same download price I an read my book on 3 different devices. They all synch too,so it always automatically goes to the correct page. If you have a smartphone, why not give it a try - the app is free
Groovychook
I'm thinking about getting one of these, but just wondering how easy they are to read in bright sunlight?
Cinnamon
Kindle is easy - it looks exactly like a book - no glare at all Kindle on my phone is glary, but its handy for reading at night
Cinnamon
Don't know if you are still looking, but Amazon have released a new Kindle today - small overall size, same size screen, even better e-ink contrast, double the memory, for (I think) the same price. It also comes in a very smart graphite grey.......I am VERY tempted!

Millihelen
I've been offered an ipad for my birthday - which can also be used for downloading books. I tried it out in pcworld and I am tempted ...any thoughts anyone?
Dizzy-Deb
I have got a Sony PRS505 reader and think its brilliant. Mostly get my books from BooksonBoard.com Just had a look at the new kindle and must admit I am so tempted I like the idea of being able to download books via wifi rather than having to plug into pc as I do with my Sony. I am a big book reader and dont miss old style books, I thought I would, be once you get used to a reader of some kind its so much better...plus more and more books are becoming available. I do like the look of the new kindle... am off to take another nose.
Cinnamon
I've been offered an ipad for my birthday - which can also be used for downloading books. I tried it out in pcworld and I am tempted ...any thoughts anyone? Can't speak for ipad, but I have downloaded the Kindle app to my smartphone (& hubbys!),so now I can also, for no extra charge, download any book to my phone. It looks great & works well,& also synchs the book to the last page read between the 2 devices, BUT the screen is nowhere near as good to read on ,as its reflective. Reading in the sun is out. Its good in the dark though The Kindle is totally non reflective....its exactly like reading a book,so I wonder what the experience would be like on an ipad
Cinnamon
After much deliberation I have placed an order for a kindle 3 arriving September. Am tempted to also purchase a Sony prs 300 (for the OH..for our holiday). Waterstones had them for £99 and so did WH Smiths(although the smiths one seems to have disappeared). Am wondering if Sony are going to strike back? Any comments reviews Donald ps I did ask for hints a few weeks ago but now took the plunge
Cinnamon
My shiny new Kindle 3 should arrive tomorrow - hope so anyhow as I sold my mk2 on eBay this weekend,& would hate to be Kindleless it has had some amazing reviews,so I am very excited

Blackrocksrock
I fancy one of these too and have been trying to make up my mind - kindle I think is going to get my vote too!
donald
oh yes please Cinnamon let us know what you think but I think you were already a Kindle convert! As usual my techno teenagers thought the Kindle 3 was the best option etc recently I went abroad and read all the paperbacks I took & run out of reading material, so it would have been nice to have just bought another via Amazon/internet etc. We use amazon a lot for other purchases. Cant wait now, am already looking at what books to buy in the meantime donald
Seagazer
I've just put the Kindle app on my iphone as OH and I are off on our motorbike holiday at the end of the week and there is just no room for books I'm going to have a sit down and choose some books I would be absolutely lost without something to read. edited to add: Wow! How easy is that? I've just downloaded The White Queen, The Help, Pride & Prejudice (can't believe I haven't read it - it was free) The Shadow of the Wind (didn't finish it)
