Hi

I have now had my Chooks for 3 weeks, and was just wondering if i need to think about worming them. i have purchased some flubenvet 1% Domestic Poultry Wormer. They FR for about 4hrs a day at the moment, slightly more at the weekends. I haven't noticed any worms in their 'poo' but do i need to worm them as a preventative or when i know/think they may have worms? Any advice would be great. :)

You've bought good stuff :) I'd check with the breeder if/when they were wormed and, if not, flubenvet them now - they're laying so plenty old enough.

I worm mine every 3 or 4 months, regardless of whether I see any evidence or not! Or sooner, if their combs look pale or they have dirty knickers (both classic signs of worms) or I've been on hols and they've stayed at the farm (I have no idea how contaminated the land is there ).

Thanx...i got them from omlet, not sure that they had been wormed, i have looked on worming on this forum and done my 'homework, and found that 'flubenvet' was the all singing all dancing wormer, so i got it from Amazon just the small pot. i will worm them over the next 7 days, so i know i have done it. They seem really healthy but would rather be safe than sorry! :)

Although they have wrecked my garden, i wouldn't be without them now. The first thing i think about when i wake up in the morning is....must let the chooks out...and have a cup of tea!! Lol! Plus their eggs are gorgeous!

While we are worming ours, we do everything as normal. We still feed them the same (inc. treats) and I just put the Flubenvet on some tinned sweetcorn (which they really love) it makes sure they get their ration of worming powder each day for seven days. As said before, you can still eat the eggs and ours still free-range each day.
