Guest
I just wanted to ask why the locked trolls and flamers thread keeps bumping to the top over the past few days? If you want to keep it at the top, why not sticky it? Also are people actually sad enough to waste their own time doing this kind of stuff after finding the site and going through the sign up process etc? Are you sure these "trolls" are not just being misunderstood or welcomed properly? Just because they predominantly post in the nesting box, surely that doesn't make them a troll? If they have nothing to add in another area at the time, why should they spam it unnecessarily?

LuckyChickenLover-
I PMed Christian about this a few days ago. Apparently it will be moved to the 'How to use the forum' secotion at some point.

Old Speckled Hen
Errrrrrrr............. surely anybody using any forum knows about trolls and flamers to such an extent that they need neither a warning nor a definition?

Yes, it will be moved to that section shortly. It was posted in the body of the Nesting Box for now as moderators had received a number of pm's from forum members worried about possible trolling and flaming activity on the forum. Please feel free to pm a moderator if you have any concerns.
Egluntyne
Thank you clucking clucker for your helpful suggestion. We do find that stickified posts tend not to be noticed, so we have been deliberately leaving the post and bumping it up for the short term to keep it prominent. Errrrrrrr............. surely anybody using any forum knows about trolls and flamers to such an extent that they need neither a warning nor a definition? That would appear not always to be the case, as we have had a number of concerned forum members contact us about confrontational posts recently, and they are baffled about how to deal with them, or why they are happening, on this of all forums (fora ) which prides itself on being a comfortable and family friendly place to be. Geoid
To make the stickies and announcements more effective, why not delete a few of them? Or give them a different icon or something to make them more catchy.

yvonne
Well done mods, bumping it to the top of normal posts is how this got my attention (I too ignore stickies, sorry). I also suspect many users of this forum are not very familiar with how to deal with these annoying people and that a quick summary is very useful. Old Speckled Hen
Sorry I didn't mean to upset anyone. I just thought the obvious way would be to ignore the post entirely.
Patricia W
I'm one of the innocents who had never heard of them. Thought trolls were those dolls with sticky up hair... Flamers are what you use in the garden to cut down weeds... So, I for one, am grateful to have been enlightened. Tricia
Guest
Sorry I didn't mean to upset anyone. I just thought the obvious way would be to ignore the post entirely. That would be too much like common sense! Sorry, but I really don't know how people are able to survive in the real world when they have to be spoon fed on a forum. We are blessed to have some great mods on here and I understand that topics obviously need to stay family friendly. As you say though, surely if someone doesn't like what has been said, they can just ignore it and move on with their life?
The Dogmother
For a family-friendly chicken forum, we seem to get more than our fair share of trolls and flamers Most are weeded out or reported before they have time to make any impact, but a few get through the net. Personally I'd happily ignore them and move on, but this forum is peopled by a wide range of folk, including children, so the emphasis is (naturally) on keeping such correspondence off the forum to avoid any offence being taken. It always interests me that what one person can turn their cheek to, another will be offended by, but that's the world, and we just have to deal with it. That's a shame that the minority try to ruin it for the majority. I still don't understand why anyone would want to waste their time on it, but that's life I suppose. I haven't experienced any real trolling or flaming yet, so the mods must be doing a good job somewhere! LuckyChickenLover-
Personally, I can't understand why anyone would go to the effort of setting up an account and all that, if they're only joining to post spam. Tutti Frutti
The mods do a fantastic job of keeping this forum friendly If you see a post that is inappropriate, just click the "Exclamation mark in the upside down triangle" and then the mods will do their magic

Nowadays that doesn't happen and it's just down to spotting it while trawling through the forum.

Just out of interest, where does the triangle report go if it doesn't go to you mods? Is that something that needs to be looked at on this new forum? Snowy
Don't worry, it doesn't go to a PM, but it is ALWAYS spotted - so hit that button if you have concerns!
The Dogmother
No worries, it's not duff at all . I just wanted to point out that as well as, or instead of hitting the report button, it's worth PMing a mod who is online at the time. Mods no longer automatically get notification of a report and have to be looking at that specific section of the forum to see it.

Some strange people in the world Sadly we get a lot of these on the dog forum that I go on, stupid questions like 'where can I buy a pitbull' or 'advice wanted on mating my dashund to a great dane'. I don't understand what pleasure people get from this sort of behaviour but obviously they do. I'm familiar with the term 'trolls' but 'flamers' is a new one for me!
