The Dogmother
Following on from the success of our campaign with Covent Garden Soups to get them to use free range eggs in their new quiches I'd like to take on Premier Foods, aka Mr Kipling, who currently use dried egg in their products. While they seem to be thinking about moving over some time in the future, they certainly don't seem to be getting on with it. Here's their response to my friend's email to them - I have also just been in touch with them: Dear *******, Thank you for your email regarding eggs Its always good to receive feedback and we appreciate the time taken to contact us. We are hoping to move towards using free range eggs in the very near furture but at present we use dried egg only We can confirm that your comments have now been forwarded on to our marketing department for their information. Kind regards Premier Foods They make it sound like dried eggs are better then battery..... Not so! See the Contact Us button at the bottom of this page to get in touch Edited August 5, 2010 by Guest

Seagazer
Ooh weird I lost my reply to this. Anyway I've just sent them an email. Hopefully they might change sooner rather than later.
The Dogmother
As with our previous campaign, they seem to be spitting out a standard reply, so I aim to reply to that myself and try to engage them in some sort of dialogue. I see that they have a page on FB; is anyone registered on there who would like to bring it up via that medium?
Tutti Frutti
Done And reminded them that Yorkshire Tea cakes are already made with FR eggs
The Dogmother
Oh, well done. Who manufactures those?
Tutti Frutti
Umm I had to google it It's Taylors of Harrogate http://www.yorkshiretea.co.uk/#/our_teas_cakes_and_biscuits/our_cakes_and_biscuits ETA I've emailed Mr K and am still trying to find the facebook link - if anyone has it, can you post here please and we can start asking them on FB? Lydia
Mr Kipling is here - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mr-Kipling/103714066334088?v=stream&ref=ts There is also one for Premier Foods which has 3 followers but one of the comments on that page uses a word not allowed on this forum so I'm not linking to it. Mercedes55
I love Mr Kipling cakes, in fact I've got some coming with my grocery order later on today. However it has made me think twice about buying their cakes in future, must start to make my own I guess I have also emailed them
sadietoo
We don't really "do" cake in our house so I never buy Mr Kipling and don't feel I can really join in on this one, but I will be following the thread with interest...Good Luck! Charlottechicken
Thanks for the info Claret. This one I will be joining in with as I do occasionally buy Mr Kipling cakes from the market, they don't have the names on but no-one else appears to make look-a-like fondant fancies so they must be Mr Kipling. The Dogmother
I used to love those fondant fancies, until about 8 years ago when I found out about the provenance of their eggs
Mercedes55
Well I went to their fb page but can't seem to post anything on it
Charlottechicken
I used to love those fondant fancies, until about 8 years ago when I found out about the provenance of their eggs Trouble is, when you buy stuff from the markets they have no outer carton on, so no makers details and no ingredients I've just noticed they are called French fancies, I always thought they were fondant fancies

Lavenders_Blue
I love French Fancies and also Battenburg (although the Mr K ones offer a pathetic amount of marzipan ) However, since I started my label-scrutinization campaign (since I've had the girls, basically) Mr K products have been right off the menu. I would love a French Fancy or a Battenburg - but not enough to buy a Mr K. I see an e-mail coming on
Tutti Frutti
I would love a French Fancy or a Battenburg - but not enough to buy a Mr K. Do M&S do them? They've rescued me with my urge for Walnut Whips and salad cream!
The Dogmother
Or Waitrose - they also have a free range eggs in own products policy.
fourfinches
I would love a French Fancy or a Battenburg - but not enough to buy a Mr K. Do M&S do them? They've rescued me with my urge for Walnut Whips and salad cream! Despite a good campaign about their ethical stance - free range eggs, fair trade coffee etc M&S only do this in their own brand products they are now selling am increasing range of branded products which don't meet their own standards eg Heinz salad cream, Nescafe coffee When I emailed them about my disappointment with this this their reply said "Our customers’ convenience is at the heart of our decision, and having a range of branded items in our stores will save them time and mean that they will be able to do more of their weekly shop with us." karlotta
Great idea! Is there a list somewhere of companies who only use free range eggs in their products?

Funnily enough, I emailed them about selling Cadbury creme eggs and Heinz salad cream only yesterday Perhaps we have our next campaign in the sidelines OH! And the Ben & Jerrys Fairtrade Brownie icecream? "Fair for farmers, fair for coffee producers, fair for the dairy cows..." I thought, "And what about the chickens producing eggs for the brownies???" No mention of them - so I went on their website and guess what? They use FREE RANGE EGGS!
The Dogmother
I have been in dialogue with M&S over exactly the same subject; I wouldn't mind, but they sell their own Gooey Eggs, which Rosie says are nicer than Cadburys Creme Eggs and free range to boot. We'll tackle them another time.. onwards with Mr Kipling
