Operation to empty crop. **Sad update

Recommended Posts

Hattie continues to do well with an empty crop again this morning

Some sad news is that we got home last night to find that Red had died :( - she was our ex-barn who was at least 6 years old (been with us for 4). She was curled up in the pen and looked very peaceful - we are devastated but were concerned about getting her through another winter and we know she had a wonderful life with us and as my husband said she had a good innings.

Rest in peace naughty Red-Lady.

Honestly, this has been the most stressful and emotional 2 months in 4 years of chicken-keeping! But seeing Hattie and Mildred emerge from the eglu this morning to explore their pen makes it all worth it.

I've just read through everything in here, it sounds like you have had a terrible time, and to now lose one of your hens, I'm very sorry.

I'm so pleased you are able to see light at the end of the tunnel, I hope things continue to improve for you :)

Hello again

We got back from a weekend away to find that Hattie is not able to empty her crop without the medication. :(

We are not prepared to keep giving her tablets three times a day as they have horrible side-effects and make her depressed. We are taking her to the vets tonight but are not expecting to bring her home :(

When I let them out this morning Hattie was first out and really bright and chatty which makes it so much harder but she can't go on like this. At least she is happy now and not depressed because of the tablets anymore.

Oh no :(:(:( - I'm so sorry to hear this, it seemed to be going so well - but you're probably right to take control of it now - the thing to remember is you did everything you could and stuck with it, which is no mean feat, and probably gave her a few more quality weeks with you than if you hadn't done anything, - all the very best wishes and big hugs to you...give your other hens special cuddles and hope you feel better soon..xx
