sezra
Today I went out to check for eggs and was pleased to see one from my Bluebelle. She is my youngest POL and has only just started laying more regularly. Whilst I was shutting the door to the run I dropped the egg and it broke! If I told anyone else that I was sad they would think I was mad. I know its only an egg but when you have your own hens they seem so precious! Am I being soft? jlo
I know how you feel - I am the same. I don't mind too much if it is one from my older lady as hers are a bit thin now anyway. I have dropped one or two from my newbies and get really cross with myself. I think that the worst time was when I put one in the pocket of my dressing gown and then managed to crush it by accident! Oooh, not pleasant! We have just been waiting patiently for her eggs and it seems such a shame. I always say thank you to them aswell when I collect the eggs! Soft and slightly mad? CatieB
I managed to have a collision on my helter skelter and smashed 3 eggs I was very unimpressed but was so mad with myself I rrecovered one, as only the end had cracked, and used it! I was never as precious with shop ones

sezra
the first time i dropped one of my girls eggs i cried a bit I completely sympathise! I felt like that. We only have four hens so don't get loads of eggs and really appreciate every single one! Makes you realise how convenient the supermarkets make everything and how much people take our food supplies for granted. I am very glad that eggs are one less think I have to get from Sainsburys! majuka
I've put one down on the garden swing, which is next to the coop, but I didn't put it the correct way (can't think how to describe) and it rolled off the swing, the girls made short work of it though! Both me and Dave have had the unpleasant squashed egg in dressing gown pocket, him twice me just once. And I always say thank you when I collect them because they work so hard at producing them

Calamity Jane
My ladies haven't even started laying yet and I am already paranoid about dropping an egg. Remember when you first walked downstairs carrying your new baby boy/girl and I bet you thought about dropping them ??!!!!
beach chick
oh yes, I say thank you every time too (but with the current egg drought, there's also a certain amount of 'and when are you lot going to get on with it again?!') but when I drop them, I give them shell and all to the dog - good for his coat, and makes me feel better about dropping them. I dont like giving them back to the chooks unless we have a glut and they're cooked (eggs not chooks), because it makes me think they are cannibalistic (prob they are) and also I think it could encourage egg-eating. sezra
I didnt give mine back to the chooks, I put it in the bin! I have had only had two eggs a day recently from my four, I keep having a little chat with them about it but it has had no effect! I think I need to limit their treats again! Purplemaniacs
I always say thank you too. I have broken a couple of eggs and was most upset. Grandaughter (5) likes to collect the eggs, when she is here and knows how precious they are, one day she dropped one and was very upset and didn't want to tell me, she got her Mum to break the news to me. Eggs are so special from your own girls Chrissie
cavysqueak
I dropped an egg from one of our new hens the other day. I felt really guilty and my husband was sad as well I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who feels really sad when I clumsily drop one. Dad looks at me like I'm mad, but he calls the egg hen's fruit!!
