Egluntyne
Have I just swatted the first wasp of 2007? Bloomin' thing made a nuisance of itself first thing and refused to leave by the door which was politely opened for it, so I'm afraid it got a swift but accurate flick with a tea towel and is no more. Had a wasps nest which cost £40 to get rid of last year. Don't want a repeat.

Mrs Frugal
We had a big queen wasp in the conservatory last week. It is now RIP - Resting in Pieces .
Egluntyne
As Cinammon says they are pointless things....except for the sting!
Christian
I wouldn't say pointless, they love making large holes in my plums!!!! Say nothing you lot!

Guest
We had several wasps last week. 9 in DD1's bedroom in one day!!! I am very concerned about a nest, but can't locate a site. After last year's totally terrifying experience, we are all more than a little bit nervous of wasps. But we don't seem to have had any more since then, so I'm 'watching this space'. Popcorn
ugh hate them too They always seem to come in through the wide open back door quite easily, then seem to think they can get out through the glass in the kitchen window and forget about the wide open door. Stupid wasps Haven't had any here....so far.....
The Dogmother
I had an enormous queen wasp in the attic room last week - the UV bug zapper light sorted it out - FRIED!!!
Christian
Funny you should mention wasps today. We had a HUGE wasp in the bathroom yesterday! OH (the 6'1" scottish jessie hates all things beastie) screamed for me to get rid. I have never seen such a large wasp, makes sense that it was a queen! I let her out the window. Should have squished her!
The Dogmother
Best to squish them Hon before they go and make another nest.
Cinnamon
Yep,I am with Clare on this one - squishing is the way to go
One Man Banned
I think I'm with most here and will squish wasps if I can - it's a bit tricky for me though as I'm allergic to their stings I got stung several years ago - the morning after a late night before - and thought my brother was sticking something into my head just to annoy me - when I actually came round it was a wasp and my forehead swelled up so much it was like a Klingon!- quick trip to A&E and some antihistamines (didn't even knew what they were then ) and I have to keep them with me all summer now........just in case! Darned retched things A xx
Popcorn
my forehead swelled up so much it was like a Klingon! I know I shoudn't laugh Andrew, as it could be very dangerous if you are allergic (especially if it gets you in the neck )...but that description of your forehead had me laughing like Paola.... Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
One Man Banned
well If i ever consider botox in future I'll save money and just sting myself once or twice - such a small sting should have the same effect. Don't worry about laughing Gina, it was years ago! A xx
Cinnamon
The Hubby got stung when we were in Cephallonia a few years back & passed out. Strange as he has been stung many times before (hazard of the job!) & has been since with no ill effects We were on our own in a very remote part of the Island, but luckily the barman whizzed him to the local hospital where they kept him all day. Before he went I chucked a couple of antihistamines that I had for Cleos hayfever down him, & they worked a treat. It was very, very scarey.......to see a big healthy man like that just collapse,& then not hear anything from him for 6 hours,in a strange country with no car Our holiday company,Tapestry, were fantastic & a girl rep sat with him the entire time he was in Hospital & even paid his bill as he had no cash on him & didn't have his medical form either. I couldn't praise them enough. We keep Epi pens around with us now (& I am taking several to Kos next month)
Egluntyne
Blimey!! What a worry! I once got stung by a bumble bee when I was unpegging some washing. It stung my thumb and I had the most excruciating pain, not particularly from the sting site, but I could feel the pain travelling up my arm. Very scary
The Dogmother
I once got bitten on the bum by a load of red ants (laugh all you like folks), it was blumming painful! Not allergic to insects, but I'm allergic to morphine
Guest
That's unlucky Clare! I really enjoyed morphine after a major operation

Guest
I can't ever detect any effect from that! But morphine - I was so relaxed! It was wonderful. I could just close my eyes and go straight to sleep whenever I felt like it.
The Dogmother
I won't tell you the effect it had on me, suffice to say that the nurses and doctors were panicing
Helly Welly
I had a wasp in the house today, i had to spray it with hairspray. I panic about hitting them in case i miss and annoy it. I don't have any problem with bees, i've just ordered one of those bumblebee nest things for the allotment. Flies get fried with an electicuting fly swatter we got from B&Q
