Ill Hen *RIP Lady Lay*

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I think Lady Lay is ill :(

For the past few months she's been stretching her neck and then moves her head & neck from side to side but for the past 2 or 3 days her comb & wattles have gone from bright Red to pale pink she has also gone quiet and today she hasn't eaten any of the s"Ooops, word censored!"s my mum gave her.She has drank some water (With ACV) from out of a drinks straw. Also she hasn't laid any eggs for a few days.

Anyone know what's up with her?

(I did notice her dust bathing in the grass this morning and she was sunbathing earlier too)

A bit of an update!

This morning we thought she was dead. She wasn't in the run and the dogs & Orakiah kept looking in the coop.I managed to call her out of the coop and i noticed her crop was massive. My sister got her out but when she picked up Lady Lay lots of creamy coloured water came out, so i felt her crop and it was all squishy and when we rubbed it loads more of the stuff came out (I did get some really rubbish pictures of it coming out) She did get a bit stressed so we left her for a bit.

I've (My mum) bought some Verm X which i'm going to mix in with some mashed potato later (Lady Lay's favorite) so fingers crossed she eats it.

EDIT:

Forgot to add Her comb was pink this morning when i left about 10am (The tip of her comb was a dark red/purple colour) and when i got back about 12 ish it was the normal red colour :D

EDIT again:

Some pictures taken this morning

Pictures aren't that clear,The stuff coming out of her mouth was a milky colour and all watery,It would only come out if we tilted her head to the ground or just slightly touched her crop.

Thanks Claret.

I've added 1 teaspoon of ACV to every litre of water is this OK?

We've just been feeling her crop again and it's ALOT smaller than it was this morning and she seems to have perked up a bit but some more of that stuff came out.(It smells nasty too :vom: The dogs also rolled in it)

I've also gave them some mashed potato with 2 scoops of verm X (Vets didn't sell Flubenvet, will have to get a prescription to buy it online) and i put in some poultry spice which she ate a bit of.

Will have to pop to asda tomorrow to get some live yogurt and look online for some Bokashi Bran :D

Will do!

We make sure to keep lifting her back up again so she can take a breather. It did start off where lots was coming out but now just a couple of drips come out each time.

Will feel her crop again tomorrow Fingers crossed it's empty in the morning.

I've got some good news (I think :? )

Today when i picked Lady Lay up she didn't bring up any of that stuff straight away :D but her crop was still slightly full with that stuff (I even got some of the stuff up my nose and can still smell it) She also seems alot happier today and even went to sleep while my sister was holding her.

I have seen her Drink some of the water and i'm going to offer her some Warm Mashed potato in about 15 minutes. Her Comb is much more redder today too, But she is spending alot of time in the eglu (I don't really blame her though as it's cold,Windy & Raining)

I've also ordered some Bokashi Bran about 10 Minutes ago and Asda are delivering some live yogurt tomorrow.(I just hope she eats it now lol :anxious: )

thanks.

she didn't look too well this morning (purple ish comb & was quite limp) she was also freezing.i had her wrapped in a towel to keep her warm.i was holding her for about 30 mins and just before i was about to put her in the run so she could get a drink she died.

what upset me even more is she died 10 minutes after our cat died 3 years ago today :-/ (if that makes sence)

i'm also going to give orakiah lots of fuss and treats today as shes gone a bit sad/quiet

So sorry she didn't make it. I've just came back from the vet as my Bonza was showing exactly same signs -not eating or drinking and comb was very pale and a very large squishy crop. The vet said there was nothing they could do for her and put her to sleep, but I did wonder whether I should have tried to nurse her for a while. It is so sad when they go.
