phenna_family
Weird one this, We have a cockatoo that appeared yeterday in a tree opposite our house! My daughter mentioned it yesterday but I thought it would have disappeared by now. It's just sat there looking at us about 10 foot out of our reach. Does anyone have any suggestions about who to call or how to rig a 20 foot net up? Thanks
Looney
Perhaps the RSPCA? You could try and tempt it down by leaving some food for it....but then not sure how you would catch it

The Dogmother
Is it green? My folks live in Hertfordshire and have flocks of green parakeets wheeling around the neighbourhood - they're a right pest too as they make such a racket.
Cinnamon
Yes, we get them around here too. Not in our village, but Brian has seem them roosting in trees while out on jobs in the area. They are a proper pain - noisy & will nick the fruit off your trees too
Looney
I used to live in Brentford and we had loads of green parakeets flying around in the wild. They used to strip all the blossom off the trees
phenna_family
No its not green its white with a white crest and like very pale pink under feathers if you get what I mean, the RSPCA rang me today and said basically if they can't reach it then it's on its own, but we could try and get it down from the tree and then ring them again and they will come and collect it. Well I saw it this morning about 7 when I let out the girls, but when I came home from work I haven't seen it, hope its ok. Not impressed with the RSPCA I thought they cared about all animals but they just didn't seem to bother. Well thats how it came across on the phone. AnnieP
Wouldn't the RSPB be better to contact if the bird is still around?
Guest
You could perhaps metion it to local vets - they may know who it belongs to, and could contact the owners - birds like this are valuable, and the owner will no doubt be quite distressed aout it's disappearance. There may be some kind of exotic bird society contacts that would be able to help, will check with chookiehubbie, as it's more his thing! Cinnamon
Topical - just spoke to my pal Katrina who says her cat cought a blue budgie over the weekend. Apparantly it was furious at being caught & it took the whole families efforts to get it out of the house & free again
Sarah71
Not impressed with the RSPCA I thought they cared about all animals but they just didn't seem to bother. Well thats how it came across on the phone. Claire I've had the same experience with the RCPCA. Some years ago I found a dog abandonded in the grounds of the school at the top of my street on Boxing Day, it had been there overnight and it was -2, so my OH climbed the fence and got it out and took it back to our house. We called the RSPCA but they told us to put it back and call the dog warden the following day. So they wanted us to leave it out in the grounds for another night in the freezing cold, no way...so we took it to the local police station. I too thought the RSPCA were supposed to care about animals
The Dogmother
me too, on several occasions
Happymama
There was something on the news this week - our local news - about a fella who keeps exotic birds, esp. Macaws etc, and lets them fly free, only shutting them in at night. On cold days they stay home, but Macaws can fly literally hundreds of miles in a day, and his apparently do, on warm ones. Odd, because although these birds can fend for themselves in the warmer weather, other birds will vilify them and gang up on them if they can for being so different. AnnieP
There's a macaw which flies about at a campsite in Bude. It belongs to one of the wardens and it just comes home every night to sleep! Its a wonderful sight!
Louise
RSPCA Don't start me although I am on fairly good terms with one of their senior people but she is a very strange person
Egluntyne
On Look North (Yorkshire) tonight there was a report about a pair of parrots who have been living in a park in Otley for over a year. They managed to survive the winter etc. They have become a bit of a tourist attraction, and cause great mirth by perching next to a church and wolf whistling during the vicars sermon. (Occupational hazard eh Revnev?) They reckon that someone has just let them go, as there have been no reports of thefts or escapes....It was a crafty move to find the guilty owner. I hope they are successful.
